Jen Tackett Drops a Southern Kissed Single

The latest release from Jen Tackett comes through with a wonderful and vivacious combination that's riddled with character, hints of the right attitude, and that little bit of swagger that pushes the envelope and lets her presence as an artist really shine.

"Compass Rose" is a track that seamlessly blends elements of color and edginess by bringing together this Americana and classic country vibe with all the warmth that it should come with but also gives it such a lush personality that you end up getting attached to it.

This is certainly heavily country-influenced, and it does have that southern swag and tonality that wraps its arms around you and keeps you right where it wants to.

Again, it's that character that she portrays and how she delivers it that ends up connecting so well.

This track is a soiree of gorgeous instrumentation from an acoustic feeling guitar to an electric slide guitar and all of these elements breathe life into the song as well as its overall energy.

When you listen to this song you know that seeing it performed live, right in front of your face, would be outstanding and it's exactly what you want.

One of the things I adore about this song is the simple fact that I can hear a soiree of influences that flow in and out of it constantly and they bring me hints of classic rock, classic country, little bits of folk, and a rustic underbelly that really helps the song create an atmosphere that comes with a very Lush and full-bodied soundscape.

There are even sort of gospel-like vocals and harmonies that come in and out giving this such a rich set of textures.

You quickly find yourself singing right alongside this song. Especially the second time around, you get infected by the spirited tonality and performance of everything.

I feel like that's one of the best words for this track as a whole. Spirited. It's just so vibrant, and sort of in your face in its own way.

The energy is electric. It's not super over the top but it's addictive and it affects you.

Some of that classic rock influence also comes in with her vocal approach. There are elements of her vocals that give me little bouts of nostalgia as I grew up listening to a lot of female-fronted classic rock groups.

She's not belting or anything crazy. She's perfectly balancing her vocal approach with the energy of the song, and this is a smart move because the track ends up having a very forward-moving flow.

She's got lots of soul which is what makes the vocals so robust. She doesn't need to belt things out. She's got the passion in her approach and the elements of blues shine through constantly.

The track is also quite danceable and has a sort of anthemic undertone which I also really enjoyed.

This track was a great little escape. It pulls you away from wherever you are and whatever you are doing and puts you in her world for a little chunk of time.

I love songs with this level of soul. And it's not forced. It feels completely natural and again, seamless.

Upon listening to this track, I took a bit of a dive into Jen's back catalog on Spotify.

This was an outstanding experience as she has a handful of singles released beginning in 2020 and each of them has the same level of soul, character, vibrancy, honesty, and personality.

These are the elements that flow through the veins of her work and if you like "Compass Rose", you will most certainly like all of her other releases prior.

You get more hints at her pure country influences, and I feel like she gives pieces of herself with her music.

A die-hard country music fan couldn't ask for anything more.

Check out the single and do yourself a favor, listen to this single and check out some of her other releases because it's all well worth your time, especially if you are a real country or Americana fan.

Even if you're just a fan of music that makes you feel or think. Music that delivers real character. Jen Tackett delivers.

Remember where you heard it first.
