The latest single from Jackie Marks and Jon Loya brings out a different and refreshing vibe that actually sort of bends genres and blends them at free will by taking this acoustic pop undertone and bringing in a bit of soul and funk into the mix with a deep-rooted groove and this almost vintage disco vocal approach that works incredibly well with the track like this.
"Change" is most certainly a song with some meaning behind it and a lot of us can relate to it because it talks about how a certain kind of relationship or situation is dragging you down in a particular way. Still, you are the person you are and there's just no changing that.
It also beckons the question of whether you should even think about changing for the situation or the relationship.
Maybe you're better off on your own so that you can just be yourself.
There are some layers to this track and the way it's portrayed is through this really vibrant and colorful pop-coated approach and it works so well because Jackie brings this again, very soulful and bountiful vocal to the mix, and along with the beat of it, it does create this almost classic sort of soul-pop vibe, and I love that aspect.
The acoustic guitar along with the beats and how the song grows is a key element here because it does have this beautiful flow to it and by the time you get halfway through it, you have that hook stuck in your head.
I love a song like this because it's super danceable but also has a deeper purpose behind it while it portrays a piece of the artist and her personality.
Now, we're no strangers to Jackie and Jon as we've had the privilege to listen and review some of their stuff before, and I can tell you right now that this is a cool direction that they're taking which shows this sort of artistic freedom where they're able to create a kind of song that they feel like creating in the moment.
There are no walls or barriers around what they're doing, so everything about this track feels super freeing.
It sounds like Jon is coming in with some great backing harmony vocals and that adds a lot of depth and layering to the track as well, so it comes through really thick by the time you get to the middle and end of the song.
This is an addictive track which, to me, speaks volumes for these two because as a duo. They're really able to pull off all these different styles, but everything feels honest and well put together.
We've been keeping an eye on them for quite a while and waiting for this release to drop. Now that it has, I can say that it's incredibly satiating.
You will find yourself either dancing around or singing along with this track probably within the first listen.
Just a great combination of textures between the acoustic guitars, the beat, the vocals and again how it builds up and you have the synth pads that fill the space later on.
It's just very full-bodied and feels good to listen to because it has a sense of empowerment to it as well and that is an infectious thing.
I love this direction and can't wait to hear whatever else comes next from this duo as they never cease to surprise me, and I haven't heard a bad note from them yet.
You should check this track out when you can and get in the groove.
