An Interview With Sonic Honey

A fresh pop banger from Sonic Honey shines with a soulful and harmonious tonality that has a wonderful way of whisking you away to their world for a moment and it all bears heart and soul especially and that vocal delivery.

"LMK" (Let Me Know) is an instant classic and feels like the kind of song you've been listening to on the radio for the past few years already as it comes through with an impactful approach.

This track does an outstanding job of showcasing this group's ability to create memorable pop hooks and do it together so that it comes through with a particular uniqueness that you end up getting addicted to.

This is the type of song that grabs your attention from across the room and keeps you right where it wants to.

This track was super lush and full-bodied but never lost that pop drive and that incredibly danceable and fun vibe.

It's refreshing but still familiar in a welcoming way to hear this youthful and exciting approach that is coupled with such a great harmonization and vocal smoothness that has the ability to kind of just whisk you away somewhere else altogether.

And I think that's an important aspect in pop music in general especially these days.

One thing is for sure, this is definitely a group to be on the lookout over the next year as we're certainly hoping that they release something else in coming months.

They have this combination of a classic and new school sound that blend together naturally and create an atmosphere that's all their own.

The track does wonders for the presence of the group as artists and vocalists but also really shows you that they have a knack for catchy pop song writing because a lot of the song stays bouncing around your head far after it's ended.

Listening to this song will definitely give you little hints of nostalgia as you do get some of those classic influences coming through, but I think that's a major part of why they do their thing this way.

The artists and bands that influence them let them create something with their own twist but still incredibly welcoming and with its release we wanted to have a sit-down with Sonic Honey to find out where this all came from and what might be coming up next for them.

Here's what happened.

Buzz Slayers: Okay, let's start with "LMK"! This single was bright and had a touch of edginess and plenty of character! How did this track come about?

Glo: We found this amazing track online from a somewhat mysterious Producer named Mantra. We don’t really know much about Mantra except that he or she has an equally eclectic and amazing credit list for songs recorded by Marc Anthony, Future, Ne-Yo, Kat De Luna, Sean Kingston and even Pop Smoke! Alyssa B: The beat is fresh and timely. We wrote the song with the help of friends in Texas during a session we had in Austin at the height of the pandemic, no less. We also wrote remotely with a seasoned songwriter named Koko Laroo. She’s best known for her work with Bebe Rexha. She’s a prolific writer, gave us the hook and helped build out the verses in one evening!! AD: As far as the subject matter of the song, the words pretty much speak for themselves. It’s one of those stories everyone on planet earth can relate to. Who hasn’t been in a new relationship and needed just a bit more from their lover? Buzz Slayers: How did this all start for you musically?

AD- Alyssa and Glo actually found me on Clubhouse (anyone remember that app?) - they had already started dipping their toes in the project and were looking for a third member. I’m forever grateful for the experience and knowledge these girls have in the industry as I’m a bit of a newcomer. The really incredible thing is that we met for the first time in person at our first studio session and we all vibed right off the bat. We all have the same vision for the group too which is really special. Buzz Slayers: What kind of things really inspire songs for you?

Alyssa B: It’s easy to write from experience, and we’ve all had our fair share of heartbreak or being head over heels.

Glo-Life experiences for sure. In old literature they say, art imitates life far more than life imitates art. Either way our creative processes are reflected from what we go through and what we see.

AD- Yea echoing what the girls said, but also just writing with other incredibly talented musicians like these two- makes the process so much more fun! I love being able to bounce off of one another and really fill in each others blanks. Buzz Slayers: This song has some great styles combinations on it! Can you give us some of your biggest influences musically?

Alyssa B: We love SZA

Glo- Yea sza was definitely an inspiration in the writing process.

AD- SZA was a huge inspo for the song. Lyrically I love the emotionally intellectual lyrics of writers like Sara Bareilles, JP Saxe, Tori Kelly- too many greats to name!

Buzz Slayers: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music?

Alyssa B: I love thrifting, hanging out with my cats, and the occasional cocktail!

Glo- I’m usually on set filming a movie, spending time with friends and family, and shopping.

AD- Working (I’m an influencer talent manager), singing with my local Houston cover band, walking with my pup Zero, and traveling! Buzz Slayers: Who's in all your headphones right now?

Alyssa B: Asiahn and Brent Faiyaz Glo- Samara Joy, amazing jazz artist, and a lot of Afro beat artist. Shout out to Ethiopia!

AD- Lizzie McAlpine, Victoria Monet, Russ, JP Saxe, Lennon Stella, Saint Levant Buzz Slayers: Are you doing any live performances right now?

Alyssa B: Yes! We just played our first show in Austin at the Moonlight bar during SXSW. Buzz Slayers: Did you record yourself or hit a big studio for this?

Glo- LMK was recorded in a big studio in Houston, but you can always get the same experience with a home studio as well, for all the aspiring artists out there. Buzz Slayers: What can your fans expect from you in the near future?

Alyssa B: A lot of new music, visuals, performances and just getting to know what Sonic Honey is about. Oh, and we just got an invite to perform on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood, so we’re stoked!

Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?

Alyssa B: We’re a fairly new group so if you’re already rocking with us, then we appreciate you so much! Hopefully this is the start of a long journey together! Stay tuned for more releases this summer!!
