An Interview with Monoliyth

A brand new single and video released from Monolyith delivers a fierce and fiery, brutal death metal and grindcore soundscape, and with that, you have a slew of metal undertones that hit insanely hard and five off an earth-rumbling approach and aesthetic that packs a massive punch and comes with inventive riffs and grueling vocals.

"Excised Unborn" comes right in, thrashing away with a trudging heaviness, and along with it, you get dirty, sludgy tones coming from the bass guitar along with an incredibly sonically driven guitar sound.

That opening riff lets you know what you're in for. It hits hard and gives you the sense that you are about to dive into this massive opus of a blackened death metal and metalcore style track that's coming at you with an aggressive tonality from all angles.

This is exactly what it does.

The drumming is intense. The drummer throws in some crazy kick drum action that comes at times, serves almost like fills, and I love how he performs with such a high octane gusto, driving the rest of the band to follow suit.

There's a ton of awesome change up here, including some speed and thrash metal that comes into play with faster drumming and classic Slayer-type riffs, all coming to a head with double kick fury and some awesome time signatures.

This is a progressive track. There's a really good amount of these changes, and it keeps you on your toes.

It's just a flurry of inventive and killer riffs that, as a metal fan, leave you totally satisfied.

The vocalist brings the pain. He's definitely letting out a lot and doing so with a deep-toned growl-esque style scream approach, but that changes up here and there as well. This one single track showcases a lot of surprises around its Corners.

What really hits the hardest is the energy. Honestly, this song feels almost like it was recorded live on the floor to an extent, and everyone involved was just feeding off of each other's energy the entire time, giving the song this blistering aesthetic.

The track is also dropped with an outstanding music video that is as rambunctious as the song is and does indeed showcase their presence as a band and their love for their craft.

Now, when I say love for their craft, I don't just mean playing their instruments or singing, I mean writing songs together that give you this extensive and invasively robust metal.

You get some crazy guitar solo work as well, which is to be expected, and it gives you more than what you hope for in terms of some great technical approaches and bringing those classic metal influences into play.

You can hear a slew of different influences in just this one track alone. These guys are inspired by all kinds of death, blackened, speed, thrash, melodic, and grindcore metal approaches.

They aren't reinventing the wheel; what they're doing is delivering something that metal fans will absolutely love.

This is one of those bands that you listen to on record and immediately know you want to go see them live.

It doesn't happen a lot, but when you hear it, you know it. This is a band that I would definitely go see at a live show and jump in the pit for

These guys are outstanding at what they do.

People who don't listen to a lot of metal a lot of times don't understand the musicianship that goes into it.

These guys could drop a jazz record right now if they wanted to.

They're amazing at what they're doing and their heart is in it, which is something you can hear in those changes, in the energy, and in the songwriting.

The vocalist crushes his performance the entire way through, and everyone just holds on to that crazy and raw energy through the entire track and goes through all those sick change-ups and time signatures.

Now, as far as we have been informed, this single is the first to drop from an upcoming album released via Wormhole Death Records.

I certainly cannot wait to hear the rest of this album. Maybe I can get the guys to send it to me early.

In the meantime, if you're a metal fan, dive into this one because you won't be disappointed, and on top of that, after hearing it, we convinced the guys to do an interview with us.

I wanted to find out more, and I certainly did.

Check out the interview below and dig deeper into the world of Monoliyth.

Buzz Slayers: Let's talk about "Excised Unborn"! This track had a blistering approach with elements of a number of metal styles! Amazing riffs and energy too! Where did this track come from?

Hey guys thanks for having us on Buzzslayers!! Yeah "Excised" was a part overall part of the writing process for the Album He Who Kills. The songs are based on the perspective of serial killers as a whole, and musically I wanted the songs to have a lot of tension, drive and hooks, to deliver the concept of what we were going for. Hopefully we've achieve that.

Buzz Slayers: I'm hearing a few different approaches to this record! Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

For me my musical influences are broad with metal, but when it comes to Death metal, I cant go past the late 80's -90's era. Stand out bands are Death, Malevolent Creation, Deicide, Suffocation, Disincarnate

Buzz Slayers: Is this single going to be part of the upcoming  HE WHO KILLS album? When is that set to drop?

Yes definitely, we also have two other singles coming out prior to the Album release due in August 2025. One being a lyric video taken from the title track ,and the other is titled The killing floor.

Buzz Slayers: How long have you guys been working with Wormhole Death Records? How did that come about?

We signed up with "Wormhole" this year, our Manager Michael from Black-roos entertainment had contacted them, and sent over some studio demos. They liked the material and everything fell into place from there.

Buzz Slayers: Do you guys write songs together, or are there a few main songwriters that bring ideas back to the rest?

When it comes to writing the music, I'll put the songs together and arrange them on guitar pro. That way everyone can get a copy to work on, and embellish their parts as they see fit. Before long we'll have a bunch of new material that we can tweak at rehearsals, and have them ready to record.

Buzz Slayers: How did this all start for you as a band?

Back in 94-95? I joined a band called Cyanide (Aust) ,we were playing Thrash metal at that stage, playing some covers from bands like  Pantera, Kreator and a few originals I had put together. From there with members coming and going, I formed  Monoliyth in 1998, and at that stage we were still playing thrash metal. But ultimately I wanted to go heavier and focus on death metal,  it just feels more at home writing and performing this style of music.

Buzz Slayers: Are you performing live right now?

We have been performing this half of the year, plus working on finalizing recording duties for the release of HE Who Kills. We have some time off for now and will be playing live again in Oct with the release of the Album.

Buzz Slayers: Now that this is out, what's next for you as a band?

We are looking at some touring in 2026, possibly in Asia and an Australian tour as well. I have also finalised eight drafts for another album, so we will hit the studio again sometime in mid 2026.

Buzz Slayers: Who's in all your headphones right now?

Deeds of flesh  Reduced to ashes!!

Buzz Slayers: What would you tell people they can expect on this release?

Just expect an honest brutal Album of old school Australian death metal.

Before we go, what would you like to express to fans of the music? A: We'd like to thank our fans overseas and at home in Australia, for their support and sincere feedback. It means a lot to know that people enjoy the songs and live shows. Thanks again and see you all on the road....

Buzz Slayers: Thanks guys!
