An Interview With Kacey McClain

In a new single from Kacey McClain the artist brings out a combination of refreshing, crisp and bright textures and soundscapes to create something that not only has a ton of Pop tonality, but also a great character and a certain colorfulness that lets the song thrive.

The single is called "Unwanted" and it does have hints of personal experience in there that kind of give you the idea that the song originated from someplace real which is awesome. However the song does have this massive pop appeal and it sounds like a very radio friendly summer hit single.

The track is laced with personality and neon lit undertones that touch on almost a retro pop feel at times. This was arranged very well and has all the bells and whistles that you would want from a pop banger like this.

You get a great balance between really fun and danceable styles and approaches and little bits of seriousness here and there as well that peek through from time to time.

The beat is heavy and hard-hitting and gives the song a great Drive while McClain's vocals are almost dreamy and smooth period they sort of float between the notes and the combination of those two things are like savory and sweet.

It's something that works incredibly well and also let's Casey show her presence as an artist.

This song is really a great showcasing of what she does and how she does it period the way that she has an openness and a freedom about her performances and how she doesn't hold back with songwriting or arranging.

The synth sounds are awesome and give the song that neon lit backdrop that is the main aspect of how it touches on that vintage pop style.

But this really works for her. She comes off beautiful and Charming with a graceful performance that leaves little to the imagination. The song has this fantasy element about it that makes you want more and more.

Plus, you can definitely dance your ass off to this track. It certainly has that balance between being a club track and a song that you just pump at home while you jump around the living room and sing along.

With the release of such an addictive pop single we wanted to have a talk with Kacey McClain to find out where this song actually came from and also what might be next for her as an artist.

Here's what happened.

Buzz Slayers: Let's kick things off with "Unwanted". This track has a great pop sheen and touched on a little retro-pop as well! Where did this single come from?

This song has influences of: Taylor Swift, Chvrches, Illenium, and The Chainsmokers.

Unwanted was written about a relationship a couple years ago that both started and ended badly. The reason I gave the relationship a chance was that I was trying to open my mind and grow personally. I was going through the loss of my Mom so loneliness was at an all-time high. I later regretted my decision to give this open relationship a try, but you live and learn!

Buzz Slayers: When did this all start for you?

I had wanted to be in music my entire life but had been initially discouraged. In college though, I took Voice 101 and fell in love to the point of trying to change my major. Long story short I recorded my first song shortly after and the rest is history!

Buzz Slayers: When did you fall in love with music?

Music has always been a love of mine, it has helped me through so many difficult situations in my life. I was in college though when I finally experienced recording music of my own, and that was when I realized what I was meant to do in life and in music.

Buzz Slayers: What inspires you to write a song?

There’s so many different things that inspire my writing: a feeling, an emotion, an experience, a person, a relationship- it’s endless. I really love the songs that write themselves, those are so special!

Buzz Slayers: This song has some great styles! Can you give us some of your top musical influences?

My top influences in music are: Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry, Halsey, P!nk, Julia Michaels, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Jewel, Journey, SIA, Selena Gomez, Hilary Duff, Daya, and Fletcher. I feel like I’m constantly adding and subtracting from the list but these are some of the regular influences in my music as a whole.

Buzz Slayers: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music?

Usually you will find me with my dog, and or boyfriend; in my spare time I try to spend it relaxing in some way. I love to go to the beach, movies, do some cooking cooking, or go out to a concert. A game night with friends is also fun.

I also spend a lot of time working on other side ventures such as my merchandise line and fashion in general, film locations and real estate.

Buzz Slayers: Who's in your headphones right now?

I’ve been listening to a lot of Ava Max and Lana Del Rey recently.

Buzz Slayers: Are you doing any live performances right now?

Nothing to announce yet but things are in the works. I’m planning on it this summer.

Buzz Slayers: This track feels like a big undertaking, is there any advice you'd give to other up and coming artists out there?

Don’t rush yourself and stay true to who you are! Have fun with what you’re doing, and remember promotion and marketing is key when you are starting out.

Buzz Slayers: What can your fans expect from you in the near future?

My sound is definitely growing and changing and I’m really excited to share some of what I’ve been working and writing this past year!

We have a lot planned for this year, so keep your eyes out for lots of new music and videos and fun content! There will be new merchandise soon as well and shows to be announced.

So stay tuned!

Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?

I love each and every one of you!! Your support is super important, and I appreciate you so much!

Subscribe to my Spotify, YouTube, TikTok and Instagram for Instagram in particular the subscription helps me be able to keep doing this! And all in all just keep being you!
