A fierce and fiery single release from July15th brings together some of the best elements of thrash, punk, death metal, and more, all rolled into one massive track that boasts intense energy, memorable and heavy-hitting guitar work, and different vocal approaches that complement each other damn near perfectly.
"Through The Flame" certainly doesn't waste a lot of time in terms of coming in with that heavy-handed approach and bringing some of that doom and sludge rock influence to the table with its opening chords that bleed into this octavized guitar riff before thrashing out and hitting a sort of speed metal approach.
The guitar work across this whole track is awesome simply because it's experimental. It doesn't come through with what you would expect the entire time.
Again, this is a thrash metal type of track, and they do hit that aesthetic on the head a lot of the time, but they do also include some of those outside-the-box, effect-riddled, and experimental approaches, especially guitar-wise.
I feel like this is part of what lets this song stand out.
Along the way, you have some massively intense drum work that not only builds the drive of the song but also feels like it's alive. The drumming and performance overall add a liveliness to the track that breeds an electric energy and certainly helps push that edginess through the roof.
The vocals are fierce a lot of the time. They're brutal style death metal and blackened vocals that come in packing a punch, and later, you hear melodic vocals that are a little bit softer and more subtle, bringing a different texture and feel to the song.
This is also a great element because the blending of those two vocal styles in one track is brilliant. It lets the song breathe a little bit, adds a different section to the song that you didn't expect in the first place, and showcases how this is a band that writes music the way they want to, without boundaries.
They're not just writing blackened or death metal songs that thrash out because of the genre itself. They're taking things in different directions and being again, experimental with it, which is why it comes through the way it does.
One of my favorite aspects of this entire thing is the energy level. There's something about this song that makes you think of a live performance. It's as if they recorded a lot of this live on the floor, and everyone involved was feeding off of each other's energies the entire time.
Now, I wasn't there, but listening to the track makes you want to go see them perform it live simply because if they can capture this kind of energy and aesthetic on record so well, then seeing them live must be an absolute face-melter.
This is totally what I would expect from a band like this. I would expect to get my face melted. Hell, the recording did that.
I'm a big fan of inventive and outside-the-box metal tracks like this one because they are unafraid to do things the way they want to, but still hit like a sucker punch to the gut. So, it's like everything you'd expect and more.
The vocals are awesome and also really push that drive and edginess through the roof, balancing the hectic and dynamic energy of the band and their performance.
The track has such a great sort of darkness to it that again, sort of beckons doom rock and metal at times, and I love that aspect about it as well. Just the fact that they're able to blend so many different underbellies of metal into one track is pretty outstanding.
The track comes with a pretty killer music video that features some of the band's presence and really fits the song well.
With the release of such a banger of a single, we wanted to have a chat with the band to find out where this track came from, what might be coming up next, and more.
While you listen to this single, read through our interview with them below.
Don't forget where you heard this first.
Buzz Slayers: Let's talk about Through The Frame! This track thrashed hard with that brutal approach, a blend of screaming and melodic vocals, and sick guitar work!! Where did this track come from?
Thank you so much!
Our vocalist Cherry noticed that many people in the public eye — politicians, artists, influencers, VIPs — are often portrayed in a negative way. That kind of framing can destroy lives, so she started writing a riff for the song. Max, our guitarist, then added the verse and some additional riffs to complete it.
Buzz Slayers: I'm hearing a few different approaches to this record! Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
Arch Enemy, Jinjer, Crypta, Death, At the Gates, Atheist and Christian Münzner
Buzz Slayers: Did you record this at a home setup, or at a big studio?
We always record at home — that’s where we feel most creative.
Buzz Slayers: Do you guys write songs together, or are there a few main songwriters that bring ideas back to the rest?
Max and Cherry are writing the Songs for the band.
Buzz Slayers: How did this all start for you as a band?
Cherry first began writing music with our former guitarist back in July 2018. By November 2020, the idea had grown into a full band and we started rehearsing together. After a few twists and turns, we finally found our current lineup in 2023.
Buzz Slayers: Are you performing live right now?
Yes, we have a few shows coming up in Germany, and we’re aiming to play more live performances.
Buzz Slayers: Now that this is out, what's next for you as a band?
We’re planning a small tour for next year and currently working on a collaboration with another band from our region. Right now, we’re recording our next single, and we’ve already started producing the music video — the B-roll is already in the can.
Buzz Slayers: Who's in all your headphones right now?
Burning Witches and Gorod.
Buzz Slayers: What would you tell people they can expect on this release?
It’s a fast, high-energy song that makes you want to let your hair fly. We absolutely love playing it live.
Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to express to fans of the music?
We’re incredibly grateful to have you as our fans. If you enjoy what we do, please consider supporting us on Patreon or Bandcamp. And for the survival of the underground: keep going to local shows and keep the underground alive!
