A fresh new single from Adreinne Leska brings out such a youthful and almost nostalgic feel at times as she speaks her mind about the intensity of emotions and how we deal with them along with her completely addictive lyrical phrasing and style and it all feels welcoming in its own way.
"Mirrors" is an insanely honest single and it takes a lot to lay it out the way Leska does and how it's performed with the color and heart that she does it with is also something that makes it all infectious.
The song is bursting with this cinematic pop tonality and the rhythm is driving as the song builds and becomes lush with textures.
This release has life and hints at contemporary pop while keeping this truthful edge that makes you want to hear more and more.
That chorus is the hook. It's crazy catchy and really has a way of sticking with you. Something about the song is warm and Leska comes through absolutely charming.
The music video that accompanies the single is wonderful as well as it shows her personality even more somehow.
I think the main thing about this track is that if you listen to it, you'll get the message.
With such a colorful single, we wanted to touch base with Adrienne Leska to find out where this song actually came from.
Here's what went down.
Buzz Slayers: Let's start off with "Mirrors". This track was really lyrically clever and it came through incredibly well! What is this song about to you?
“Mirrors”, the title track of my upcoming EP, is about embracing the inner child through others, while understanding that hardships are as beautiful as the enlightening and positive ones which help us grow. It is the story of transformation, awareness and appreciation towards all of the experiences myself and everyone encounter in this infinite journey of life. We are here for a purpose, and stories we create are a guide to what that is for each and everyone of us. Letting go of things that are a reflection of judgements of yourself and letting things in that bring you to the journey that you want.
Buzz Slayers: So when did music start affecting you? When did you fall in love with it?
Music started affecting me as young as the age of 2. My father would put on female vocalists in a CD player to help feel calm. The Wizard of Oz was the first movie I saw, and immediately fell in love with it. Singing and playing piano have been part of my life since the age of 8. Studying vocal music throughout grade school, college and teaching children have inspired me to also continue writing. Music continues to be the essential guide toward my inner peace and purpose in this world.
Buzz Slayers: The video was really good! Did you film this yourself? Did it come out how you expected?
My music producer and friend Jake Bonham, who is also an indie artist under the name of birdshield, filmed the video. The lighting, story line, colors and scenery really capture the message of the song beautifully. Can’t wait for you all to see what is yet to come.
Buzz Slayers: What inspires you to write a song?
From awareness of the environment in everyday life, to relationships and the feelings I experience are what inspire me to write a song. Melody is the first thing that comes to me, typically. But sometimes even a simple poetic phrase or line becomes a story.
I write music to help people find inspiration inside themselves. Authenticity is what I stand for and embrace in music and community!
Buzz Slayers: This track has some great styles! Can you give us some of your absolute top musical influences?
Thank you so much! My top influences include The Beatles, Maroon 5, Lennon Stella, Jacob Collier, Lady Gaga, Coldplay and more.
Buzz Slayers: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music?
You will see me journaling, meditating, practicing yoga, teaching children how to write songs, explore, and spend time with friends and family.
Buzz Slayers: Who's in your headphones right now?
I am currently jamming more specific relaxation, indie and pop songs, rather than particular artists lately! Some of these include: Sol Rising, Miss Christine, birdshield, Kevin O Garrett.
Buzz Slayers: Are you doing live shows at all?
From time to time. Farmer’s markets and building community have been an approach for me as a starting point. I am intending to host house shows with other artists, and eventually branch out nationally to other cities such as Nashville, NYC, L.A. and more.
Buzz Slayers: This single and video feel like a big undertaking, is there any advice you'd give to other up and coming artists out there?
My advice to all of you creatives is to enjoy the process, immerse yourself in the story you are telling, and develop patience. Your happiness with the work you have put in will reflect on other’s experiences.
Buzz Slayers: What can your fans expect from you in the near future?
My fans will expect to hear a new single from me on 11/11 called Someone Like You! It has a catchy, Taylor Swift feel. The video is super whimsical and fun, too. More singles coming out throughout the year, EP, and shows. Also, be on the lookout for an upcoming songwriting program for youth called “Positive Producing.”
Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?
Follow your heart and share with the world what you believe in because you matter!!
