A new single from Hanne Lynge delivers a unique approach in describing some of the emotions or feelings, inner thoughts, and some struggles that go along with being out there in the world, in terms of relationships.
One of the things that really reaches out and grabs me about this song is her semi-poetic approach to the lyrics and her lyrical phrasing in general. It's got this great approach that feels almost like classic slam poetry styles, but not as intense.
I think part of the actual intensity just comes from how honest she's being about everything. She's letting a lot out and putting it out there for everybody to take in.
This is pretty brave, and the song feels a little vulnerable because of that honesty, but that's also what makes it so authentic. It's that authenticity that lets you know it came from someplace real and lets you sort of connect with it in different ways.
The song is called 'Single Soul", and musically, it's got hints of Americana and country, rock, and more, but a lot of the guitar work is really what keeps this thing moving forward. The guitars have great twang to them, tremolo effect at times, and have a little touch of cinematic undertone as well.
The song almost feels like the music from an old western, in a sense. It's got that vastness and sort of spacious southern soul to it.
You could also hear some great contemporary pop and '90s influences throughout the track, and I just think it's something that hits perfectly because of the character and personality that's displayed behind everything. She's really just putting herself right out on the front lines and saying, 'here I am".
She doesn't really need a response from anyone because this was for herself.
I love artists like Hanne simply because she puts pieces of her true self into her music. The song has a little quirkiness and is actually kind of funny. It's got a little wit and humor, slight looseness, and a whimsical undertone, all adding to that personality delivered in the song.
It's not just the lyrics, it's her approach. Again, that phrasing of how she words things comes through almost like a poem. A poem that she turned into a song later on.
It's a song about self-awareness and understanding who you are to an extent while still sort of questioning everything at the same time.
It's nothing new to any of us, really. I think the only difference is that a lot of us don't know how to articulate those kinds of thoughts into words, let alone Words and music, so when we hear songs like this again, we connect with them
The vocals, personality, character, sort of vibrancy, and presence keep the song really going strong, but the guitars make it flow.
The guitar work gives it its atmosphere and its mood.
I love the combination of those two elements. Between the lyrics, vocal approach, and guitars alone, the song really stands out because you haven't heard anything quite like it, or at least I haven't in a while.
It's unique in many attributes, but I think that the biggest and strongest element of it all is that truth. The truth factor is heavy-handed and unafraid.
Once more, it's not too serious. She is speaking truth and being honest in her self-expression, but she's not taking anything too seriously.
The track has quite a great groove to it as the percussion has deep pockets but also additional ghost notes that sort of float around between the beats, giving it a little extra life.
It's pretty clean. It's not super lush or packed with too many instruments. It's a clean song, it's Chris, and you get to focus on what she's singing about, which is important.
There is something catchy and quite addictive, but you'll have to listen to it for yourself to see exactly what I mean.
Now, we are a bit familiar with some of the musical works of Hanne Lynge as we've heard some of her previous releases, including two outstanding ones from earlier this year called "Ain't Life Easy" and "Could It Be Here", which both showcase additional sides to her personality.
There are no two songs that she releases that are alike. She really spreads herself out there in terms of being a bit eclectic in her songwriting and how she wants the songs to be constructed.
This is a great track to dive into her works, but once you finish this, I suggest checking out those other two singles, because if you like this one, you're going to like those as well. Again, she's giving pieces of herself in her music and there's always a level of honesty there that you know is genuine.
Check this one out as soon as you can and remember where you heard it first.
