If you are not yet too familiar with the sounds of Lara Price then let us be among the first to introduce you as she has a single release that does an amazing job of displaying her music and how she showcases her presence as an artist by bringing in a combination of honesty and edginess to build a character that you end up really getting attached to.
"Shadows" is it track that Laura certainly gives a piece of herself on as lyrically, she's very straightforward and she talks about certain kinds of inner struggle and inner thought and to me when I listen to the song, it feels almost like it could have been cathartic for her to write and release but for the listener, it comes through as very relatable and understandable.
I think a lot of us have the kinds of feelings that she displays on this song, but we just don't know how to articulate it the way that someone like Lara does, but I also think that's why artists are so important.
They can sometimes help us feel like we're not alone in certain kinds of thoughts or struggles and this song is a great example of exactly that.
It also makes the track super genuine because you know it's coming from someplace personal and very real, so you end up really loving that factor as well and for me, it made me want to dig even deeper into her back catalog.
This single is very descriptive lyrically and has a sort of slow-burn approach until it hits that main chorus which rocks out a little bit more and gets a bit bigger.
One of the things that I loved about this track is her vocal approach because she's got the upfront vocals that give you all the lyrics. Still, she also has these other sets of vocals that hold out words and turn them into different melodies which creates a whole other layer in texture to the song.
There are times when her vocals can seem even haunting, but this goes along with the track and works perfectly.
This has a sort of 90s underground grunge and alternative rock vibe, and that combination of character and edginess helps the song push the envelope to where it needs to be.
One of the things that I find important with a song like this is the actual mix. Now I know that not a lot of people like to talk about the mix of a song in a review but for me, it's important simply because there's an aesthetic that this track hits and without a proper mix it doesn't really fit but here it's done perfectly.
There are a few different vocal tracks on this song and some of them are dripping with reverb and this is part of what adds that vastness to the undertone of the song and helps nail that aesthetic.
Earlier, when I mentioned haunting vocals, without that reverb they would feel much less haunting for example.
I'm not sure if Lara is the one who mixes her songs, but I feel like she is, simply because she's so involved with the songwriting and recording process to the point where I think she's performing most or all of the instruments that we hear.
She is a multi-instrumentalist and brings those talents to the table when it comes to songs like this one.
I also love the fact that she's able to pull off this very particular sort of energy on the song and it creates an atmosphere that sort of wraps itself around you and keeps you right where it wants to.
It is very easy to get engulfed by this song and then eventually washed away with it.
This was a very honest and character-riddled release that lets see you how our works as a person and as an artist and I think that's super important to be able to showcase for someone that's putting music out there because it makes everything authentic.
I would most certainly check this track out as soon as you get a chance and I'm sure you're going to like what you hear. Once you do that you should also check out some of Laura's back catalog on Spotify because there is an acoustic mix of this track along with other releases that show some different sides of her.
Dive into this when you can and remember where you heard it first.
