NAYAH is back at it with a new single that definitely breeds some of the artist's classic staples, but with this beautifully cinematic and slow burn that gives you elements of gospel, alternative-pop, dream-pop, and again, this very honest approach that just feels like she's giving that piece of herself with the track.
NAYAH is someone who often does this. She almost always gives different pieces of herself when she releases a song, and this single is absolutely no exception to that rule whatsoever.
"Lifeline" feels super personal, because it is. She's putting it all on the line and just being open, even though it feels like it's hard because of the vulnerable state and sentiment, mood, and aesthetic that the song gives off.
The reason I call this a slow build is that it does exactly that. It has this buildup, and throughout the song, you get more and more emphasis on that. The song becomes sort of more intense in a sense. As the song unfolds and those intensities grow, more instrumentation and precaution start coming into play, vocals double up and become thicker, and the whole thing starts becoming even more emotional than it was when it started.
The track starts off with just a single vocal and this soft, subtle organ that feels delicate because, in a way, she is being delicate on the song with her emotions. It's a song about insecurity and something that a lot of us can relate to.
I love that there's a big portion of this song that just stays this way. Just soft, delicate organs, a single vocal until that main first chorus comes up where you still get the same, but you start hearing harmonies during this section.
This kind of helps build out the chorus a little bit more and also gives you a glimpse or understanding that the song does have this sort of growth to it. One of the reasons this makes so much sense is that the song is also about growth as a person.
The song then starts gaining some percussive aspects, drenched in reverb effect to keep distance and add these beautiful layers of depth to the song's soundscape.
You're really wrapped around the lyrics as the song plays through. She's so unafraid and sort of brave when it comes to the lyrics. She's really putting it all out there, and all of these personal and emotional inner thoughts come out so that she can get them off her chest.
The song features some great changes, and the organs start to grow more intense, a full beat comes in, and loads of lush backing vocals, so all of a sudden, you are listening to this full-bodied and beautiful, floaty, dreamy track.
The main vocal has so much soul, and because the performance has so much of that heart to it, the lyrics feel even more authentic.
This is one of the most beautiful tracks she's released to date. Again, this is an artist who delves into different elements of pop. She branches out from alternative to dream, indie pop, and more, but one thing I can say that seems or feels very consistent throughout a lot of her material is that it is indeed quite cinematic.
I feel like part of that is because of the fact that there's so much emotion backing it all. It's because you can literally hear that it's coming from some real place.
I found this so impactful because of how she put this one out with no walls up she had to take a lot of walls down to put this track out. Again, this is brave. It's a song that takes guts, and all that emotion is what makes the song as impactful as it actually is.
I also again come and love the growth of it. She takes her time growing this song out so that by the time it hits that final chorus, it's just full-fledged and wrapped around you.
This is one of those songs that stays with you. Then again, NAYAH is one of those artists who do as well.
She's always testing her limits, experimenting with different approaches, always keeping things under that pop umbrella, but doing it in a way that makes her music her own.
She has her own aesthetic, and I find that compelling and alluring.
Absolutely listen to this single and the rest of her material as well. I suggest checking out songs like "Catch My Love", just as one example.
If you like this single, you're definitely going to like a lot of her other stuff. Although again, it goes in different directions depending on her mood or what she is willing to put out there at the time, but it all feels real.
She puts together such a beautiful blend of pop music that it's very difficult to turn away from it.
This is a track that you swim through. You float alongside it and soak everything in slowly.
Listen to this one as soon as you can and see what it does for you. I'm sure it will affect you.
Remember where you heard this first.
