A recent single release from Manneq In Me has an excellent way of delivering a lush personality and character as it goes through this sort of dream rock soundscape. While the song unfolds, you start to pick up on all this edginess and attitude it puts out there.
"In The Dark" starts off with that expansive and spacious undertone as it focuses on just the drums, bass guitar, and some vocals. This lets you really start getting attached to that personality pretty quickly and starts to give you a vibe of not only edginess but the deep and heavy-handed groove that the song gives off as well.
As the song plays on, the guitars come into play, and you start to get a little bit of that alternative rock vibe. The guitar tone and approach itself start to add a whole different textural layer to the song and also bring with it, some added drive which is all at a perfect time because the song is about to hit this massive chorus.
The chorus itself is definitely the heaviest section of the track and hits the hardest but does so with this kind of allure and a bit of soul as well, especially with the way the vocals are.
With this track in particular, the vocals are almost everything because that's what really gets you pulled into the song. The band doesn't outstanding job of letting that build come in and when it gets to the climax of the track it all works perfectly but the vocals are what get your attention because you want to hear what she's saying, and she's got this sort of sultry tonality to how she sings.
When it does get to that chorus, she belts louder but still has that soul that she does the entire time.
I think that the arrangement of this track is one of the smartest things about it. The way that it sort of breathes and feels alive with these swells and sways.
The whole track has waves of intensity that come and go, and I love that about the song because, again, it makes it feel alive.
This was a smart arrangement in composition but it's the performance that really grabs you too.
There's something about this track that feels like it was recorded live on the floor to an extent. It seems almost like everyone involved was just feeding off of each other's energies the entire time and that's why the track has this kind of drive that it does.
You find yourself getting very attached to that energy because it's infectious.
The guitar work across this track is outstanding and you get some great lead stuff but it's not over the top. It's melodic and works perfectly with the song and the way it's headed.
Later in the song you also get these robust and lush backing vocals and harmonies that fill any empty space and bring in more of a robust soundscape to the entire thing.
This track came through quite impactful and, you can tell that there was a lot of attention to detail during its creation, but you can also tell there was a lot of heart and personality involved, and that never goes away.
Hell, that might be the most important aspect of the track. It's one of the reasons you find yourself connecting with the song.
Everyone in the band has this kind of swagger. And I love that because it's very confident and comes through strongly which makes the song impactful and with a certain power.
The track has an accompanying music video that also shows more of that gothic undertone and edginess that the music delivers but it adds more of that character to the mix because you get a lot of great visuals.
You can tell they put a lot of effort into the music video as well because it feels like it was kind of storyboarded and there's a blend of amazing shots that really aren't easy to pull off, so it also showcases how much love goes into whatever the band is doing whether it's the music or the videos.
You can just simply tell that this is a band that has a real love for their craft and when I say that I don't just mean playing their instruments or singing, I mean writing songs together that have impact, pack a punch, have that edginess, soul, personality, charisma, and more.
Listening to this track really just made me want to see them perform it live because if this kind of energy can be captured on record, then seeing them live must be awesome.
Most certainly have a good listen to this track and one of the best ways to do that is to watch the music video which we've embedded below.
If you're on your computer, put on headphones because it's seriously so much better that way.
There's a lot going on in the background and ether of the song and so listening to it with headphones really lets you soak all of that in.
This was a robust and killer alternative rock banger that had some sultry and sexy undertones to it.
Remember where you heard it first.
