An Edgy and Theatrical New Release from HER

ree

The brand-new single from HER just dropped, and this track embodies a unique style and brand of honesty, along with storytelling, all accompanied by a thick, laid-back personality, lush musical undertones, a semi-theatrical approach, and a haunting vibe.

"Dark Circus" is an outstanding track, especially in terms of its musical layers, because this song comes through with so many textures that are laid on top of each other, and this gives it such a spacious underbelly and a vast atmosphere that you just end up getting sucked into.

What really reaches out and grabs you first and foremost are those vocals. The robust and edgy but soulful vocal approach adds something so unique to the track and pushes that atmosphere even further while delivering this very authentic swagger all at the same time.

The ability to create a track that has this kind of haunting and dark undertone while telling a story and having these kinds of almost early 90s sort of alternative approaches, especially with the guitars and tones, is incredible.

There are a few different guitar tracks here; one of them has a great tremolo effect, and that adds a flowy but almost eerie sort of aesthetic to the track, but that goes right alongside what it's delivering.

This entire song has an amazing aesthetic. It makes me think of bands like Concrete Blonde.

I grew up listening to stuff like this, so this track hit me pretty hard, and the way that they nail that feel and soundscape is amazing.

There is that theatrical backbone here. It is cinematic and has this dramatic effect both musically and vocally, and the energies of the entire band and those who are performing the song fluctuate between each other.

It all has such a cool way of putting you there in the moment with them.

There are pianos underlaying everything, and there's this great sort of bridge or breakdown section with the piano that gives the most haunting and the most theatrical underbelly, and this section has these edgy tones drifting through the background, creating this fast ether, so the song ends up engulfing you in that moment.

I have to love tracks that swallow you up the way this one does.

This track has an amazing sonic presence to it.

It's ever-changing, just like the intensities of the song are. The intensity comes in waves that wash you over, and the song feels like a waking nightmare in a sense.

This is certainly the type of song that will come back to haunt you, and I think that's its job.

The full-bodied sort of feel of the vocals is so engaging, and they do have that edginess and slight dark tonality as the entire song does, but they're also gorgeous.

They are powerful and help push the drive of the song itself, although, again, the guitar work here is outstanding and doesn't need much help in terms of drive.

They put a lot of thought and attention to detail into the tones of their instruments. This is a huge factor and why the song has the aesthetic and feel that it does in the first place.

They wanted the song to feel grittier and almost edgier or darker as it played through, and by the end of the song, you have this massive Sonic overflow of fuzz tone coming through, even with the tremolo guitars.

Everything becomes almost overwhelming or overpowering.

This was an absolutely massive track, and it brings together a slew of influences so that they were able to create something memorable, and packed full, a little bit outside the box and its thinking, and with that powerfully embracing edginess and darkness.

This was, to me, a beautifully haunting piece of music, and everyone involved in an outstanding job of creating that massive atmosphere it does and pulling you into it, whether you like it or not.

I definitely feel like this is a track that stands tall, and I absolutely loved how it reminded me of some of these bands I loved growing up.

You can tell some of that mid to late 90s alternative underground style bands influence this band quite a bit, and you can tell everyone is completely on the same page here.

This was an awesome song, and I would listen to it with headphones on so you could soak in all those layers and textures I was mentioning earlier.

Take a deep dive into this track as soon as you can and remember where you heard it first.
