If you're not familiar with Flamenco as a genre, you should start taking a little bit of a deep dive because it is one of those styles of music that will grab you, sweep you off your feet, and have your body moving non-stop.
Flamenco is a Spanish form of music that gives off such a unique flair and is based on rhythmic approach and movement.
People that have heard the term Flamenco before, automatically associated with Spanish guitar which is also a main form of Flamenco music. Flamenco guitar is the most popularized in Western culture and this is what Pedro is performing.
What isn't quite popularized is the actual full-fledged genre of Flamenco. This is packed with outstanding instrumentation, jazz undertones, such vibrant energy, and it all comes together with a natural flow that invites you in to start dancing with the rhythms.
Each track on this record has something slightly different to offer in terms of that instrumentation and approach.
The first track, "Como una Moto", is an amazing song to you introduce the EP with simply because you getting some of the finer staples that you'll hear throughout the record right in this introduction track but, you also should be listening to this record in full.
This is an EP that's got a lot to offer. I'm talking about layers of beautiful instrumentation, surprises, rhythms that combine with tones that will make you shake your butt in your seat as you're listening.
You can feel the flow of these songs get into your blood and your bones. You start moving with the music automatically. It's like second nature.
This is really beautiful stuff. It's something that is so refreshing and alive that you keep wanting more and more of it as you feed into that energy.
The guitar work is incredible. It is performed with intricacy, delightful technique, and passion. That is probably the best combination you could possibly think of for almost any instrument to be performed with.
There are also loads of horns, accordion, amazing, belting vocals, and percussion that always adds the electric energy and liveliness to the songs themselves.
The percussion brings that rhythm, but does so with a bright and vivacious style.
It's what helps the songs come to life and the percussive instrumentation throughout the record drives everything.
Pedro obviously has an actual love for the craft of guitar performance in Flamenco. He's stellar at performance. A master of the instrument and utilizing unique time signatures and rhythms to create songs that feel beautiful yet complicated at times, Pedro blew me away.
This is a record that will sweep you off your feet. I suggest soaking it in because it's one of the best things you'll hear all year.
Again, I'm going to mention that each of these songs brings something new and fresh to the table. Yes it's, it's all Flamenco but there's different instrumentation, approaches, vocals, all kinds of new things with each track that show face and with that, you have a record that never gets old. There's never a dull moment throughout the five songs that you hear across this release.
The EP is called Influencias, and it has sparked something new in me. I cannot wait to dive into more of Pedro's music but also the genre itself.
