A Surfy Garage Punk Soiree from Talk Chalk

A new single release from Talk Chalk delivers a soiree of garage-pop-punk with a damn near perfect blend of color and edginess, all brought together with an animated and lively energy that creates an atmosphere you want to jump around the living room with.

"Pet." gives off some heavy-handed surf-punk vibes with quirky and addictive, beach-soaked keys and blends in amazingly with the guitar tone and overall energy of this track.

This has to be touched upon because the energy level of the song is through the roof. It's got that pop punk undertone in terms of some of the soundscape, but it's the energy that reaches out and slaps you in the face.

This is the kind of track that feels like it was recorded live on the floor to an extent, and everyone involved was just feeding off of each other's energies the entire time.

The song boasts outstanding and animated vocals which come through slightly theatrical and with plenty of swagger at that garage punk tonality, along with some of the surfy vibes and classic pop punk style.

This certainly makes the track fun, but it is also super driving.

The drumming on this track is outstanding, and this is the element that pushes everything forward. Everyone is feeding off of those drums, and they're not just in the pocket; they also add a liveliness to the song.

Even if I'm wrong about the whole live on the floor recording thing, listening to this track makes you want to go see them perform it live in your face simply because, if they can capture this kind of energy and aesthetic so well on record, then seeing it live must be awesome.

This is the kind of song you listen to and immediately know if the band had an absolute blast recording it.

The bass guitar tone is completely thriving, giving off a sort of vintage pop vibe, and there are a lot of great breakdown sections that focus more on the vocals and bass guitar before things explode back into full throttle.

The arrangement of this whole thing was brilliantly done just because it has such a natural, forward-moving flow to it, but never loses that energy.

I think the vocals are so well done here because they hit the same energy as the band. She does such a great job of delivering powerhouse vocals that are completely memorable, deliver some hugs, and are riddled with character and attitude.

This is also one of the most impactful aspects of the song as a whole. It's got personality just dripping from it, and I certainly love that aspect as well.

It also features some awesome segments that are almost jazz-oriented, where each of the instruments gets its own solo. The guitar work is stellar and also gives a lot of vibrancy in color, and there are layers of keyboards going on during that solo that just bring in thickness and fun.

We were able to combine that '70s surf rock feel with an edgy garage pop approach, and the whole thing is coated in punk. That vintage, classic, 70s surf feel in combination with the more updated and driving, faster punk rock approach works super well and really makes the song its own.

It's cool because it gives you a little bout of nostalgia here and there. You feel like you've heard this song somewhere, but that's just because it's a sun-soaked surf pop-punk riot, and it's the kind of track that you don't easily forget.

You could headbang to it, sing along with it, or move the couch back and dance around the living room.

Either way, it's going to be a damn good time, and I think that's the point.

Now, the song gets pretty crazy towards the end with amazing layers of bending vocals that fill the entire song with this undeniable lusciousness. The vocals are brilliant in terms of harmonies, and the way they are layered on top of each other to blend naturally.

They're a little bit outside the box and plenty edgy, but they're so beautiful to listen to.

The song is from the perspective of a pet as the title would suggest.

The lyrics are so good, especially in terms of giving you the pet's perspective and that sort of intense need for attention and love, along with some of the wants and inner thoughts a pet just might have.

I'm not giving everything away right here, but you have to listen to the song to soak all of this in.

Now, although this is a thriving and driving track with a lot going on, it's best to listen to it with headphones simply because there are a lot of layers.

Especially at the end of that song with all the vocal stuff happening,  you have to do this with headphones because then you can really soak in all of those layers, hear all the lyrics, and just feed off that energy that it gives.

It's been a long time since I've heard of a track deliver this much fun, and such a righteous and powerful, thrashy, melodic, loose but super tight sound.

It was an absolute blast from start to finish, and I can't wait to hear what comes next

This track will certainly keep me at bay, and I think it will for you too.

This is for people who love pop punk, surf punk, garage pop, garage rock, even anything from grunge to pop rock. You're going to love this track because again, it blends that color and edging is damn near perfectly, and a ton of this was so well thought out, but still naturally delivered.

Take a deep dive into this one and you won't soon regret it.

If you do decide to listen to it through speakers, turn it up, or there's no point.

Remember where you heard it first.
