A brand new single release from Stacey Ann delivers quite a robust honesty, and with that gives off a lush personality and detailed lyrics that describe the situation, struggle, and sense of overcoming to see the bigger picture.
"Amputation" is the song I connected with almost straight away because I myself have been in a very similar situation. The song talks about severing or cutting off a friendship or relationship of some type, and as much as that hurts, it's for the greater good.
It's a concept in sentiment that plenty of us have lived through, and I find it refreshing how Stacey Ann was able to construct all of those emotions and inner thoughts into words and music the way that she did.
I think whenever anyone's having an inner struggle or trying to progress in a certain manner, the inner thought process is the most difficult part. You end up battling with yourself, and that could be emotionally tolling.
When this is happening, it's very hard to express what you're feeling and explain why to others.
Stacey Ann puts it all in such a way that we can all relate to it. It makes perfect sense and has crystal clarity.
This was definitely a bit vulnerable, but it feels like it was totally cathartic for the artist to finally write and release.
Amputation is her term for cutting off that relationship, and in a way, to me, this feels empowering.
Not in a negative sense, of course. More in the sense that you are focusing on yourself. Trying to move forward and better yourself in some way, shape or form and at times, to do that, you have to cut off certain elements of toxic or negative relationships that you have so that you can move forward.
Now, this is how I took the song. Others may listen to it and take it differently, but for me, the sentiment was right there, and because I've lived through it, I really understood it.
I think others who have lived through it or are going through it can really attach themselves to this song amazingly.
The track itself is lush and beautiful with an Americana backbone, but not over the top. It's not totally southern country style; it's got a contemporary pop underbelly to it and beautiful vocals that really have a rich flow and thickness to them.
I mean this in the sense that they harmonize and come through and layers a lot of the time, which just feels full-bodied and accentuates some of the notes and how she's singing even further.
There's some great guitar work across the song, it's catchy, colorful, honest, but even though it has us pretty serious topic to an extent, it doesn't take itself super seriously.
I definitely enjoyed her sensibility in terms of putting lyrics together and having it come through with an impactful and cut-and-dry style approach.
You can definitely hear the emotion in this. It's got a lot of emotional pull because it came from someplace so authentic.
This is another reason why you find yourself getting attached to the song. It's the character or personality behind it that you're really getting attached to.
Another thing that I really enjoyed about this music is how it felt almost like a live performance in a way.
I think it's the energy of the song that makes it come across one-on-one. The song has a strange way of putting you right there in the moment with her.
This was a song that got to me, and I was pretty astounded at how well she put it all together. She's got a soulful voice, and it's sort of mellow or easy-going at the same time. So the song has a strange way of relaxing you, which, I think, is where the contemporary aspect comes in for me.
It does have, again, that contemporary pop undertone to it.
I think we need more songs like this in general. More songs that express what someone is feeling with no walls built up around it.
Something that we can connect with or that lets you understand the story that's being told with passion, hard, honesty, and character.
Stacey Ann is an artist to keep your eye on. If you listen to this song and it hits you the way it hit me, then you're probably going to dig her EP that came out last year called "A Change In The Wind", which was riddled with soul and blues.
She's definitely got her own thing going on. She manages to give those pieces of herself in her music while delivering passion and creating these atmospheres you fall right into.
Check this track out as soon as you can and remember where you heard it first.
