A Heavy But Vibrant Single from Yes Nanny

ree

A hard-hitting new single from Yes Nanny just dropped in this thing certainly breeds a massive rock soundscape with deepening riffs and slamming drums, widespread and beefy with this sort of pop undertone and colorful approach, but never leaving that heavy edginess behind.

"Dead Weight" breeds the soundscape of something you'd hear in a live performance setting. The energy compacted into this track alone is super intense and fiery with this robust approach, and it's completely electric.

What's cool about this track is that it blends a super heavy sound with this almost garage punk tonality at times because the verses keep to a stopping kick drum and these animated vocals with an echo effect on them, almost like a megaphone.

This gives the track a bit more of a punk-ish style and aesthetic because the swagger is heavy-handed, but this is part of what puts you in the moment with the song.

The track definitely beckons a bit of grunge, alternative rock, and more, but they have their own approach to it. It's definitely heavy but melodic, powerful but fun, massive, but a little loose around the edges, which also helps the whole live performance vibe.

The way the verses are built is pure genius. The first part of the verse has a kick drum, stopping away so you can focus on those vocals and all the attitude-riddled character they are delivering.

As the verse opens up more the chords get a little heavier, and the snare drum comes in along with the kick. There aren't any symbols yet, and this is super smart.

What happens is, it leaves a little bit of calm before the storm. The symbols come in with huge sonic drive, mostly crash cymbals and full beats when the chorus kicks in.

So, because there aren't any symbols until the chorus kicks in, that chorus becomes super powerful, intense, and explosive.

This is such a genius way to brighten the choruses and hooks, give them way more punch, and make things impactful.

I love how the vocals break into these harmony sections with three or four layered tracks on top of each other, creating this sort of wave of notes that feel almost haunting but still somewhat colorful in a sense.

While this is happening, you get that deepening open drop B-style single note riff and completely slamming drums and bass guitar.

This works super well, too, because you have this balance of tonalities and textures.

The vocals are the powerhouse during the verses and become this melodic source during the choruses, the guitars become the source of power during the choruses, and so on and so forth.

This showcases such attention to detail and arrangement, and songwriting, because you can tell it was all well thought out. They wanted those courses to be bigger, and they figured out exactly how to do it.

Now, don't get me wrong, there are a lot of parts during the track where the vocals are just belting out with style, bends, swag, everything.

They wail, and you can feel the intensity and almost soul in that singing during the extreme parts, and I like that too because it incorporates some of that soul with the punk attitude.

This is a song that blends a lot of different elements of heavy rock, but does it seamlessly.

Everything about this is thick. The tones of the guitars and bass are just massive and thick the entire time.

The song comes right in with that slamming riff, so you get pulled into this sort of heavy-handed atmosphere at the beginning. You kind of know what you're in for, but it ends up being even more fun than what you thought.

Yes Nanny is a band that has a lot of influences under their belt. When you listen to their tracks, you can hear all these different rock influences and inspirations, but they have a very unique way of bringing those all together to create something that is their own.

They aren't afraid to be heavy and loose because it feels good when you listen to it.

This was one of the more sonically invasive and addictive rock bangers I've heard in quite some time, and I love the direction that the band is going.

They're keeping things fun and not taking themselves too seriously, but still having a message, story, heavy rock backbone, inventive riffs, and super smart songwriting that lets those hooks come through with an awesome edge.

Crank this track up and you won't be sorry.

Remember where you heard it first.
