A new single release from Saul Ramos delivers a very hard-hitting and sort of brutal metal approach that comes with a vastness in its undertone and packs a hell of a punch but eventually breaks out into this sort of cinematic and anthemic style chorus and throughout the whole thing you start to become attached as you fall into the atmosphere that the song gives off.
"Rust" is a very memorable track and doesn't waste a lot of time coming in with rumbling drums that push the song forward with electric energy and a bit of Fire and this deep and unearthing riff that feels like it's in drop C or drop B so that everything has a real heavy low end and starts shaking the ground beneath your feet.
As you listen to the first verse and the guitar delivering trudging refs, you hear a really killer approach to a sort of death metal style vocal that is screaming but growling at the same time and I think that that's a really interesting mix vocally but when it bursts into that chorus part, there's singing and melodies as well and so you get different layers as the song unravels.
This is something I really enjoyed because that chorus surprised me a little bit but felt like it fit perfectly along with everything else.
The two things that really grabbed me about this track are both the guitar work which is ridiculous because you get some sort of ambient guitar sections that add a little depth to the song and end up kind of creating that atmosphere and building on it as these guitar parts float through the ether of the song but then you also get a ripping solo.
Everything about the guitar work on this track is super precise with a lot of attention to detail but it's got a sort of heart and soul to it that makes it feel alive and breathing.
Second thing was the sheer energy of this track because there's something about it that almost feels like a live performance where everything was so high impact and high octane that it makes you want to go see this live in your face.
Of course, Saul Ramos knows how to produce, perform, and mix his own stuff so a lot of this is probably Saul himself performing the instruments however he does give credit to The Oathbreakers as well so perhaps that's a bigger project he is part of, and it seems like they were certainly involved with this song in particular.
Either way, what I can tell you from hearing this is that it has an insanely brilliant way of rolling in different metal influences into one track and having it haven't impact and leave a mark because it just sounds massive both with an incredible sonic drive and an arrangement that leaves some surprises around the corners and people that are into well thought out metal are going to love this track.
This was an absolute banger of a single and is really making me want to pay more attention to this artist and whatever comes from him next because you can tell this was a passion project that was done with a real love for the genre and for the craft of songwriting and producing.
People who don't listen to a lot of heavy metal don't really understand the talent that it actually takes to put together a song like this but let me tell you, you have to be able to spend years practicing your instruments and then also years working on producing to have a song of this quality so take a listen to this, and turn it nice and Loud because the louder you turn it the more it smacks you right in the face.
Remember where you heard it first.
