A Fun and Honest Indie-Rock EP from Mace Avam

An EP release from Mace Avam delivers a humorous approach to a colorful and somewhat honest indie rock style.

Throughout this record, you get a handful of surprises and plenty of sections that make you laugh and think.

One of my favorite aspects about the Hot Dads album is the fact that there's so much robust character attached to it that you end up really loving this aspect and that draws you in even further.

There are no two songs that are alike throughout the release and there is this great sort of vivacious edge to it all, to the point where you know that a lot of this came from someplace real, simply because of how incredibly descriptive some of the lyrics can really be.

The songs take you on little journeys and little pieces of her life and it's a really enjoyable ride to take.

Certain tracks have a more subtle and smooth flow to them, and they come through lighter with all kinds of colorful pop undertones while others have a little bit of a harder rock feel, but it all comes together naturally and indeed this is a unique and hilarious concept record.

Again, it's really the character and personality that grabs at you because after listening to it you feel like you just hung out with a friend for dinner.

You listen to different stories, some more personal than others and some more serious than others, but they're all genuine and so you get attached to the honesty that you hear.

The guitar tones change throughout the record, but it's all done perfectly to keep that sort of indie pop-rock aesthetic and bring in these other elements of textures throughout the way.

Her vocal approach is awesome because it is somewhat animated and again, very personal along with those descriptive lyrics that have so much detail to the stories and what she's seeing, what she's doing, all of it brings you into the record to a point where you become a little bit engulfed.

In the end, it feels like you watched a short film or read a book with each song serving as a different chapter.

Was packed with beautiful melodies, and there are indeed a lot of hooks that stick with you for hours after the songs have ended. When the whole record is over you kind of want to just listen to it again right away.

This was one of the more fun and somewhat bubbly records that I've heard in an indie rock style genre in a very long time and to me, that was incredibly refreshing.

There's a bit of freedom to this release because it's got fewer boundaries than what you may be used to especially lyrically.

To me, this record has a bit of an old and new school mix. Like some of this stuff was inspired by a 90s pop-rock kind of feel and you can hear those influences coming through in certain tracks.

This is a release that you should be listening to as a whole. Not only because of the chapters and stories but really also because if you only listen to one or two songs from the record, then you're not really getting the full spectrum of what the EP has to offer as a whole.

This is a must hear from beginning to end so you could really soak in everything the way it was meant to be.

A brilliantly unique and vibrant approach to inner thought and personal situations that at times can feel a little uncomfortable, and still make perfect sense.

Mace did an outstanding job with this EP, and we certainly cannot wait for whatever comes next.

Don't just take my word for it, have a listen for yourself and you'll see exactly what I mean.

Remember where you heard it first.
