A Flamenco Documentary You Can't Miss

If you are not too familiar with Flamenco as a musical genre or art form, then there's a documentary out there that you absolutely need to see.

Flamenco is a style of art and music that traditionally began in Spain and really brings together intense emotion into dance, performance, and music.

Some people are very familiar with flamenco guitar, a very particular approach to guitar playing that utilizes some tricky rhythms that have this unique flair to them, and all of this gives the music such a lively approach and fiery undertone that it's hard to turn away from.

There have been a ton of amazing Flamenco performers throughout history, and it's such a thriving combination of cultures in terms of its art form.

It's a very unique and slightly complex thing that culturally brings together everything from European to North African influences, along with its origins in Spain.

A lot of the time, Flamenco is a massive form of self-expression and can tell stories that range anywhere from deepening love stories to heartbreak and everything in between. Flamenco is very heavily based on emotion, and this is part of why it hits the way it does.

Again, a very intense form of expression, Flamenco utilizes those rhythms in the performance to catch the ear and give you something that's undeniably danceable, while still infusing that heavy-handed emotion and everything about it.

For those who are interested in diving deeper into the art of Flamenco, there's a documentary out there right now, you can watch on YouTube called Flamenco: Passion In Danger, which follows several performers and showcases some amazing live performances along with in-depth interviews about how these artists were influenced.

Several artists talk a lot about their family history and how that actually influenced them in the genre. It's just a cultural staple in the family, and it's been going on for generations.

This feature is pretty major, producers like Ricardo Patron, who talks about how gypsies that served in the army of Flanders were called "flamencos".

He delves deeper into the history of where it all began, while Flamenco singer La Susi tries to recall her first experience with the art form, but simply can't because they've been around it her entire life

As the documentary delves deeper, a lot of these artists, performers, producers, and historians go on to talk about how there are very few true Flamenco singers left out there because, over the years, the art form has changed.

Not exactly whitewashed, but more evolved so that the original true performance art of Flamenco, especially as a singer, has almost been forgotten.

Throughout the documentary, there are some outstanding performances.

Dance, singing, guitar performances, piano performances, and more. You get such a deepening understanding of the art form through this documentary, and it's really quite intense.

This is a real eye-opener, and when it's over, you really get a sense for how rich Flamenco is and how much incredible history it holds.

It's amazing to find out how Flamenco has been this incredible blend of cultures and how those different cultures came together to create this powerful and intense form of art that has been carried on throughout the years in different ways.

This is one of the most impactful documentaries that you can watch in terms of learning the history of almost any art form. There's a lot about this documentary that will just stay with you.

It's not just because of the history of it and how rich that is, but it's also about seeing some of these performances while you learn about the history of it all.

You can hear in the music and see in the dance how intense and emotional all of this really is. There's so much heart behind this that it's almost completely pure.

This documentary blew my mind.

If you are a guitar player, a singer, or even a performer of dance, you absolutely cannot miss this documentary.

Even if you love to learn about history. There's so much history going on with Flamenco and cultural fusion is so unique.

It has been a while since I've watched anything that has left its mark the way this did. It was amazing to learn so much about such a passionate form of art, and I'm left in awe of it all.

Definitely check this out. You will be taken by the history and the performances that are portrayed throughout this documentary, and it is an absolute must-see.

This really opens your eyes to the beauty and history behind Flamenco.
