A Classic Single Release from The Haptics

The latest release from The Haptics delivers a wonderfully welcoming and classic crossover of post-punk and indie rock as they bring this vintage early to mid-90s aesthetic into play with guitar tones, vocal approaches, and attitude.

"Biodome" is aesthetically perfect in terms of nailing that period in music because they put either a lot of effort into nailing that soundscape or they just all have a love for it. Either way, this track gives me bouts of nostalgia.

That's how well done their tone is in terms of hitting classic post-punk and garage at its damn near best.

You have a semi-brooding overtone that sort of lurks beneath the surface of everything and gives a theme off. This is a big part of the genre as well, but they also play to the rhythm guitar and overlaying guitar factor. Two guitar tracks that sit on top of each other and give a fuller, richer atmosphere.

The whole track does actually boast some great sonic drive that's not overpowering or overdone but instead balanced very well.

You get this amazing vibe from listening to the track. It's almost like it's a live recording. They've got this, 'in the moment' feeling that really worked.

Listening to the song makes you want to go see them perform it live because you know what it's going to be like. It's going to be like you walked into this whole other atmosphere for a chunk of time.

Being able to take on elements of garage rock, little hints of grunge at times, and that indie rock tonality, this really has an amazing feel to it and lets you get engulfed in everything.

The vocals are super well done and layout this perfect energy with the rest of the music so that everything is not just balanced but also pushes each other.

Upon listening to this track, I couldn't help but take a bit of a deep dive into the band's back catalog and I'm glad I did because they have some outstanding releases starting in 2022 with a full-length album.

You can certainly hear a sort of staple soundscape between all the releases, and I think that has a lot to do with the guitar tones especially.

You can hear some punk influences, more of that garage rock, but also picking up on some alternative rock and a little bit more edginess at times. There always seems to be that combination of mood and color, edginess and subtlety that all come together to make these songs come to life.

A single release previous to this one called "Vows" showcases these kinds of combinations and almost genre-bending approaches as well. It feels like it's something that comes naturally to them and that they're each influenced by something a little bit different so, together, they can create something that you get infected by.

The Haptics are the kind of band where you can listen to a song and know that they're going to be outstanding to see live. They're also the kind of band where if you listen to one track and like it, you're going to like the rest of them.

They do vary in approaches from time to time, but there is that staple feel as I mentioned earlier.

For me, I can't express enough how nostalgic this particular song made me feel. "Biodome" was written with that post-punk influence in mind and the way they captured that tonality is outstanding.

I also have to give kudos to the vocalist because they are a key element in not only creating the right kind of melodies that sit on top of the music but also performing those vocals in such a way that makes it feel like the character is almost changing from song to song.

I would strongly suggest listening to this track with headphones on because it is one of the best ways to soak it in, and if you dig it, but you will, then listen to a bunch of the previous stuff because it's all well put together and falls into that brilliantly combined set of genres that make the music their own.
