A new single from Tod Almond delivers a quite honest approach that centers on relationships where people just don't listen. The song focuses on being in an unbalanced relationship; no matter what that relationship exactly is, you can clearly hear their struggle, and the way Tod articulates those lyrics sends that sentiment through crystal clear.
As the song unfolds, you can tell that this came from someplace authentic. It's from life experience in some way, shape, or form, and the deeper in that you listen, the more you actually relate to it.
If you're of a certain age, I'm sure that you can completely connect with this track. We've all been in unbalanced relationships and have felt completely unheard, running around in circles, and not really getting anywhere.
What's great about songs like this is that even though a lot of us can be in frustrating relationships like that, we don't all know how to actually articulate that into words, let alone words and music, so when we hear a song like this, we feel a little bit less alone.
It's a track that is personal, but it's also universal, in a sense.
It's not just meant for him; it's meant for anyone who is going through this type of scenario.
It's about wanting to be free from that person; breaking away from this sour, one-sided relationship.
This track is called "Hear me Out", and it absolutely comes through brimming with all kinds of classic rock influence.
There are double-tracked acoustic guitars which thicken things up, electric guitar lead sections that sort of overlap in different areas but are peppered throughout the song, giving it that robust and almost cinematic feel, and vocals that are heavily melodic and definitely give off memorable choruses that feel almost anthemic.
During those choruses, you have great vocal harmonies that certainly come through with a robust sort of intensity, bringing out that emotion once again so that you can tell everything is genuine.
As I mentioned earlier, this section is also super memorable, and that hook sort of bounces around in your head for hours after the song has ended. The only way to satiate that is to go and listen to it again.
I grew up in a time of rock music. The era I was growing up in revolved around a lot of classic rock like Pink Floyd, but I also grew up listening to Guns N ' Roses and the late '80s, early '90s grunge era as well.
When I listen to this track, it gives me little bouts of nostalgia. I think this is because some of the influences I already mentioned are embedded in this track.
When I listen to it, I hear bands like Pink Floyd, I hear bands like Guns N' Roses, and I hear a ton of personality that goes along with it.
I think that's important as well. Having a song that boasts this much character is probably what sticks with you the most.
You do get a great lead guitar section in there that just comes through soulfully. It's nothing over the top, but it's got taste and style.
It's cool because the song does have that classic hard rock sort of feel in the form of what I would consider to be more of a power ballad, but you also hear a little bit of Southern tendency as well.
Towards the end of the song, when that last couple of choruses come around, some keys in there are using what feels like a string pad sort of sound that also adds a bit more atmosphere and depth to the track.
Don't get me wrong, there's already plenty of death, but that element brings a little extra. It helps push the emotion a little bit further as well, which is important, and everything hits its climactic point during those last hooks.
This was definitely a song written by someone who's got loads of experience.
The attention to detail- not only the lyrical content, but how the song was arranged is all really upfront. It unfolds exactly as it was meant to, and the track absolutely leaves its mark. Now, Tod definitely has some great tracks under his belt. This may be the most recent one, but I would definitely suggest digging into tracks like "Let's Party" or even albums like If Only You Could See.
This gives you even more of an idea of the different sides to his personality and his artistry alike.
So, definitely take a deep dive into this track and Tod as an artist, and while you do, have a read-through of our interview with him below.
Upon listening to the single, I wanted to know more about where it actually came from and some of his influences.
Luckily, I got to find out.
Remember where you heard it first.
Thanks so much for taking the time! Let's jump right into "Hear Me Out"! This track had a bit of a power ballad feel to it!
Where did this song come from and what was it about?
Hear Me Out' was a tune that just popped out whilst playing my acoustic guitar.
So I kept on playing about with the idea, then all the part's started to fall into place, especially the lyrics and the solo guitar. The parts that made the song pop.
The lyrics were special as a few weeks before I was talking to a good friend of mine whilst her sister was going through a relationship with a narcissist partner.
It wasn't intentional with the lyrics they just popped out, then I knew where this song was going.
I am hearing a few different styles on this one. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
I have many Influences from the likes of Pink Floyd, Gilmour, Jimmy Page, Gary Moore, 70's classic Rock, The Jam, The Who, are just a few. I've always listened to many styles, bands & Artists. My main influences are from the mid 70's to mid 80's.
Are you performing live right now?
Right now I'm reaching out looking for places to entertain. It's always hard to find gigs with original material.
How did this all start for you as an artist?
As an Artist this project started in 2018 when I decided to move forward with the idea of performing to the public. I had to be educated in producing, mixing & mastering to understand how everything works, which moved me forward and saved alot of expense.
Before I decided to become an Artist my life was up and down resulting in me playing loads of different instruments which led me to now.
Did you work with a producer on this track, or was this all you?
No I didn't work with a Producer on this song, this was all me.
What's next for you? Working on more new releases?
What's next, yes I have another 7 songs ready for release. There going to be released one at a time throughout the year. I'm very excited to push my Love story forward to as many people as possible.
What kind of advice would you give to other up and coming bands or artists trying to get heard?
For all you up and coming bands & Artists 'Never give up'! and be educated.
What would you say people can expect to hear on this single?
On this Single you would expect to hear a victim crying out for help, trying to break free from a narcissist who won't leave you be.
A very melodic emotional touching creation made especially for people that have led a life being shut down, let down and controlled ' I really feel for you all'.
Before we go, what would you want to express to fans of the music?
The music I'm writing is all about a Love story from that beginning to the end, spinning tales of Love , Loss and Life in bold rhythms and raw emotion.
To my fans - I'm listening to you! Keep me creating the music you Love! I Love a good story, what about you?
