A Catchy but Edgy EP from Limp Wizurdz

ree

The latest release from Limp Wizurdz comes through with an amazing blend of alternative, a little grunge, and more, all rolled into this one record that definitely gives off some personal space and tone, as well as this near-perfect blend of color and edginess.

The EP is called Prudence, and the first track, "Drowned Out" exemplifies some of the pop-punk influence that comes into play, starting with a crunchy and bright guitar riff that introduces the song that bus right into the first verse and right from the get-go, you are starting to get some inner thought that just comes spilling out for all to soak in.

The vocals are robust, they're kind of belting, and they give off a classic pop-punk style melody during those verses.

You do end up paying attention to those lyrics, and a lot of that is because of how descriptive the vocalist can be with his words.

You get plenty of that personality that comes out, but you also get to paint a little bit of a picture as the song unfolds, and this is something that I really enjoy because it adds character to the music.

The first track is such a great way to introduce the record because you are getting some of the staples that the rest of the EP boasts, but listening to the full release is the only way to go.

There are a few surprises around the corners, and again, this great blend of indie, alternative, pop-rock, punk, grunge, and more comes into play as the whole thing unfolds.

One of the things that hits the sweet spot for me is the actual guitar tone. They are not over the top, but they are very well balanced in terms of giving off that grungy feel, while still having things come through crisp. A lot of the time, two guitar tracks overlap each other or play the same thing together, and this adds a lot of thickness and lushness to the tracks.

"Ctrl Alt Del" is the second track, and this one, to me, even delivers some post-rock vibes. This is one of my favorite tracks on the record, and the drumming on this one is amazing. The drummer of this band is very well in the pocket, but also adds this particular kind of liveliness that the rest of the band sort of pushes off.

This is another thing about the whole record. It's got an energy that feels almost like they recorded it live-on-the-floor, so that everyone involved was just feeding off of each other the entire time.

There's a sense of live performance in the song performances on the record itself. It puts you there in the moment with the songs, and even if I'm wrong about the whole live-on-the-floor recording thing, listening to this record makes you want to see them play a show.

They're able to capture this great sort of aesthetic on the record that is alive and breathing, and I really loved how they brought some of that classic '90s emo and alternative rock elements to the mix with this track, in particular.

You still get plenty of that pop-punk. I think that genre is probably one of the strongest of the bunch, but again, they are blending and bending these heavy rock genres and sort of creating their own atmosphere.

The next track is "Bulldozer", and this one hits like a ton of bricks. This track is an absolute sucker punch to the gut, and this is where you get more of the thrash element.

It's way more aggressive, it hits a lot harder, the vocals are just screaming half the time, and it really has a more intense and immense tonality to it.

I love this because I'm a fan of all kinds of punk rock in general. This song boasts that sort of street style thrash-punk aesthetic, and I fed right into it. I'm feeling a little Minor Threat influence on this one.

The last track on the record is "Can't Talk To Steve", and this one really gives you the more grunge aspect.  The riffs on this track, in particular, are classic 90s grunge through and through.

So, you can hear all these different influences coming into play throughout the whole record, which is another reason why you should listen to the entire thing.

The whole EP is 11 minutes. There's no way you don't have that much time to turn this loud and rock out.

This is for fans of all kinds of heavy pop-coated rock, punk, thrash, grunge, and more.

Jump right into this one and remember where you heard it first.
