An album release from Liz Arcane manages to deliver such a unique breed of honesty and warmth wrapped up in a soiree of approaches that range from contemporary, singer-songwriter, soul-pop, and much more, all rolled into this one big record that oozes personality, which is the biggest thing you end up getting attached to.
The record is called The Sun Will Rise Again, and it doesn't waste a lot of time getting you into the vibe and aesthetic of the record with its first track "The Sunrise is a Love Song", which serves as an ethereal introduction to the record and does an amazing job in doing so as you get pulled into this wonderfully atmospheric state of being along with her.
As the record unfolds, you have amazing and bright songs like "One Goodbye". This portrays such a warm sentiment and approach as a whole. Liz's vocal performance and sensibility in terms of writing songs under the pop umbrella are astonishing, and this is one of the tracks that proves it.
This song is freeing in a sense and blends elements of classic or vintage pop with new ones to create something that's unique.
The record is certainly not without its Soulful tracks. "Hollow" shines with right and beautiful guitar sections that feel crisp and let the song resonate as it pulls together this beautiful aesthetic that you end up falling right into.
This is one of the tracks that bear such great soul and lets her presence as an artist shine because she has this beautiful and forward-moving flow to her singing and songwriting in general.
You also get little hints of funk, contemporary rock, elements of jazz, and so much more that come in and out throughout the record's unfolding, and it's beautiful to soak it all in.
You can tell this is a record that meant something to her because some of these songs have great depth, and this is an album you should listen to from start to finish, all the way through.
Again, the songs I've mentioned are amazing as singles. There are plenty of songs that stand tall on their own, but when you listen to the record in full, you get a different experience.
It doesn't exactly feel like a full-on concept record, but some elements point in that direction, as songs do feel a little bit connected and tell stories from her perspective.
These songs are like chapters in the artist's life, and we're invited into them.
Liz creates songs with fewer boundaries built around them than what you may be used to. There are no walls; she's free to speak her mind, and she does so with this charm that reels you in and wraps its arms around you.
When you listen to the album with headphones on, you're really able to soak in all of the wonderful textures, tones, vocals, keys, guitars, and everything else that's going on.
This is robust in terms of having a bit of diversity in songwriting that takes you in different directions, while still feeling cohesive.
You can tell there was a lot of attention to detail in terms of the arrangements and compositions, and everything else, but it's that character that she delivers that makes the record.
This is why the album is sort of special.
You can also tell that this is an artist who spent a lot of time writing songs, yet still manages to give performances that feel like you're right there in the moment with her.
You end up paying attention to her lyrics. At times, you can paint vivid pictures in your head as songs unfold, and that's kind of a beautiful thing.
You rarely find an album that has such an Eclectic and wonderfully woven set of songs that define a person so well.
I would absolutely check this album out, and again, listening to the full record is the only way to go.
There are surprises around the corners, wonderful sentiments, a little bit of vulnerability, a lot of honesty, and enough personality to soak in for a while.
But don't just take my word for it, check this out for yourself and remember where you heard it first.
