A new single from Lost Circus serves as a love letter and ode to the great Ozzy Osbourne after his passing. The lyrics of this track are really well done, and the whole thing is about how his music took you away from everything else in the world; how you could escape into the songs because they were so in-depth, so exciting.
This is a metal track, of course, but what really blows me away about it is that the aesthetic of it nailed that classic Ozzy style.
It's not a track that's trying to imitate, but rather a song that's done out of pure love and respect for an artist that helped shape a genre.
The track comes in with really well-done clean guitars that have this watery chorus effect on, already beckoning that classic sort of late '80s vibe.
When you watch the music video for the song, that section is being played on a 12-string guitar, and it does sound thick and with a very particular tone.
Soon, an electric guitar comes in, holding out some lead notes, which break into the main progression and riff of the song, and once this happens, everything feels lush.
You have these layers of guitars along with heavy chords being played, lead guitar over that just performing amazing melody and technique, which then breaks back into the verse and when this happens, the vocals come in.
The singer definitely is reaching into that classic Ozzy style, not just in the performance but in the melodies and everything.
Once you get past the first verse of the track, you start to actually realize how important the artist was to the songwriter of this track.
Ozzy Osbourne wasn't just someone who shaped the edgy metal genre, but he told stories, he inspired millions, and this single is the band's way of saying goodbye, if you will.
"You Will Be Free" has a beautiful sentiment. The guitar work across the song is outstanding, not just because of the effects of distortions, but rather the way they are performed.
There are so many different elements that are honed in on and bring together the perfect Ozzy atmosphere.
The song boasts a powerhouse chorus, an amazing amount of heart, and a lead guitar solo executed with such precision yet with such soul.
Obviously, the lead guitar solo here is inspired by the classic Randy Rhodes who passed away years ago.
Ozzy Osbourne changed the game. From Black Sabbath to his many, many solo releases, this is a person who delivered so much intense character that not a lot of people knew what to do with it.
For those of us who loved him, his passing was a big deal, and personally, this song was something that captured the right feel, mood, and even sound to showcase just how much love was had.
Right down to the organs in the background. Everything about the song was super well thought out and built with that real emotion behind it.
This is a powerhouse of a single that delivered the message exactly the way it was meant to be delivered.
An impactful metal single that was sonically perfect, driving, and melodically thriving from start to finish; you need to hear "You Will Be Free", especially if you're an Ozzy fan of any kind.

Hello guys! Thanks for taking some time with us today! Let's kick things off with "You Will be Free"!
This was written as a tribute to Ozzy correct? Was it his passing that sparked this?
Steve: Yes, absolutely. I got a feeling I need to write something. When inspiration calls, you should answer. Ozzy is such a huge influence on my path as a singer. I knew I wanted to craft lyrics with togetherness and light in mind. The strength and power that music has for people. His passing was inevitable, like us all, but it still stings and leaves an empty place we struggle to fill. Writing the words was easy; I didn’t change much. I did add the outro lyrics a ways after the song was pretty much finished.
Do you guys write songs together, or is there one person who usually writes and brings it to the rest of you?
Steve: I write most of the lyrics and the guys straighten out the music a make it rock with Bryan being the unofficial music director. It is collaborative and we all get credit.
Did you record this at a big studio, or do you have a DAW setup?
The drums were recorded in a big studio drum room, and the bass was tracked there as well. All the rest of the instruments were composed and tracked at Bryan’s home studio and the vocals in another.
How did you all meet and start a band together?
Steve: We all knew each other in one way or another from around the music scene. In 2019 we started jamming and put together the songs that would be on our first album in 2021. A pre-Covid jam session that turned out so good, we had to name it.
Do you produce your own releases?
It’s varies by song, but it’s always a collaborative effort. We are a true independent act and ultimately handle each step along the way, working with others outside the core band to assist in the areas that we require.
Can you guys give us some of your music influences? (Ozzy is a given for this one of course)
Steve: Megadeth musically and lyrically. Judas Priest, Krokus, Queensryche, Scorpions, AC/DC and I am a HUGE Diamond Rio fan. Among the entire band, we are influenced by the melodic hard rock of the 80s and 90s with other individual influences salted in. Elements of Maiden, Queensryche, Priest, Stryper, Dokken, Ozzy, Skid Row, Alice Cooper, Dream Theater, Faith No More, Alice In Chains. The story telling and wordsmithing of classic country and the hook of vocal driven melodies play a bigger part than may but obvious at first. It’s certainly an amalgamation of Metal and other elements.
What would you say people can expect from this release?
Hopefully they’ll find a connection to it that means something unique to them, while also feeling the collective bond that we all felt with the music and community that Ozzy helped create. Heartfelt and meaningful lyrics wrapped in an Ozzy influenced melody. A pure tribute to the man and his legacy and his overwhelming love of his fans.
How long did the song take you to write and release?
The lyrics came pretty quickly. Bryan came up with the melody and structure quickly as well. We worked on recording as time permitted for the next year and mastered it a couple of weeks before the release. The song came together really quickly. It had its form and progressions in no time. Finding the time to record parts and get it mixed took the longest time. But it worked out perfectly after all.
Are you working on more new music now?
Yes! We have 6 or so in the tank and a few more ready to finish. Very excited to share what we’ve got in the bag already and what’s to come with the ingredient of our new guitarist DC added in to the mix.
Are you guys touring or performing live shows?
We have shows that are going to be on the books officially very soon and will be trying to perform at every opportunity we can.
