A gorgeous new song from Pedro Cortes absolutely delivers such amazing classical Spanish and Flamenco-style guitar that comes with a full-bodied, almost live performance feeling track that makes you want to get up and dance around the room.
There's something so vibrant about this single, and of course, it's got a lot to do with Pedro's stunning guitar performances throughout its course.
This is an example of someone who is in love with his craft. Pedro is an outstanding performer, and when you listen to the song, it feels like it could be all just one straight take. This is part of why it feels almost like a live performance.
Perhaps the whole thing was done in one room, all at once.
Either way, the technical ability of this man is through the roof, but it's almost nothing compared to how he performs with heart.
The song has these rises of intensity that come and go, and during the more intense moments he really slams on that guitar. I think he's a finger-picking guitarist, but even if not, this is absolutely something that blows me away.
There are parts of the song where he bursts into full chords, and coming during those moments, it really feels like he's playing with his fingers and not a guitar pick.
It's got amazing cultural flair just oozing out of every second and every note played.
You hear a lot of the Spanish classical, along with loads of jazz undertone. The bass guitar sounds acoustic as well, or perhaps it's an upright bass.
It gives the song an extra thickness and helps build on some of the jazz-like undertone I just mentioned. The percussion is sort of light but definitely gives the track that Flamenco-style groove and makes you want to shake your body to the music.
Pedro goes in and out of these arpeggiated progressions, chord changes, and just beautiful tones. It sounds absolutely like this is played on nylon strings, and he's utilizing all of his fingers to really do the plucking, so you hear a lot of notes overlapping each other or even coming through at the same time.
He creates these melodies that melt into other ones seamlessly, effortlessly, and because of that, it just has this very smooth tone and aesthetic to it.
Everything flows like water, and the way he raises those notes and melodies is absolutely incredible.
There are certain segments where vocals come in, and the guitars follow those melodies; these parts of the songs give a little bit of extra depth to it and again push that cultural backbone to its roots.
Those roots obviously lie in what's considered Spanish Gypsy Flamenco guitar performance. Absolutely breathtaking, as it brings together those culturally rich approaches with some classic jazz mixed in, making something that has its own atmosphere.
It's very easy to get pulled into songs like this one, and there are lots of surprises around its corners as well. As I mentioned earlier, it sort of bursts into these explosions of intensity at certain points, and you can feel that energy in your bones when you listen.
This was a bit of an enthralling piece of work, and it really makes you want to dig deeper and listen to more Spanish Flamenco guitar music because it's so beautiful. There's something so elegant about the performance on this song.
It's the type of song that, when you listen to it, you just kind of think about how this person is so in love with the instrument that he spent many years mastering this kind of guitar performance.
It's someone who has dedicated his life to playing an instrument in a certain way. It must feel amazing. It must be the same as listening to a blues guitarist really rip. That feeling you get when you're forming something is invigorating; the only difference is that when you listen to Pedro perform, you get invigorated as well.
That's part of the addiction.
The music Pedro Cortes performs is focused on rhythm and heart. Yes, the technique is all there. The years of practice let his performances really thrive because he's mastered that art, but it's the emotion he puts into it that really moves you.
This is a beautiful piece of work, and you definitely don't want to miss it.
Obviously, for guitarists of any kind out there, you're going to fall right in love with this artist. Pedro is the kind of performer that you hold close once you find.
However, people who are not guitarists will also feel that natural flow, the love, the heart, the color, the vibrancy, and the rhythm of what Pedro puts out there.
So, put on some headphones and listen to this song, because I'm sure once you get through the first time, you're going to want to start it right over so you can hear some of that stuff again.
