The latest single release from Staytus brings forth yet another blisteringly edgy and addictive soundscape that takes some of the more relevant elements of electronic music and brings them into an almost industrial platform with amazingly hooky and melodic lines performed vocally, even in the verses, and this unique sonic sort of drive that pushes the song forward and lets it come through feeling alive and breathing in a sense.
The track is called "Heart Attack", and it feels very personal as a lot of music from the artist does.
I think in this case, a heart attack is more like heartbreak in a certain way. It definitely revolves around being let down or uncovering something that was a bit of a shock, and now not feeling the same afterwards.
It's the sort of sentiment that can be taken differently depending on who you are, but it still remains clear that this was a game-changer for Staytus.
Sometimes we don't see things for what they really are, and when those things get uncovered, it can change us. Maybe it's for the better, maybe it's for the worst, but either way, it can be a real shock, and that's what this song feels like it revolves around.
Being in shock from something that has been misleading you for so much time can cause a rift in your persona and approach to how you look forward from here on out. Is there more that isn't what it seems?
This was definitely a wild sort of single, utilizing killer synthesizers and keys to breed this almost aggressive but still spacious underbelly. The elements of edginess and electronic drive mixed with the vast undertone of it all blend incredibly well but still pack a heavy-handed punch.
This one was produced by Sean Beavan, who is well known for working with the likes of Nine Inch Nails, and you can sort of feel that vibe with the track production-wise.
As I mentioned, it's definitely edgy and has a powerful push to it that feels almost aggressive in a sense.
Staytus' character riddled and swaggered vocals also give plenty of melodic hooks that embed themselves in your brain.
This is a common staple for the artist, and as someone who's pretty familiar with the likes of Staytus, I can tell you that this track is a step in an amazing Direction.
One of my favorite aspects about this artist as a whole is that very raw sort of honesty. It's something that can come through as a bit vulnerable, but also feels cathartic when you listen to it. You get the sense that it was cathartic for the artist to actually release this track. It's something that you pick up on quickly, and it's not just this track either.
A lot of the artist's music keeps to that vibe and aesthetic.
It's easy to tell that a lot of the music that comes from this project is authentic, meaning it came from someplace very real for Staytus.
Not only do you have these unique synthesizers and keys, but there's also decimation on some of the beats and percussion, a very progressive tonality to it all, and how it unfolds, that classic cinematic overcoat, and the way it builds to this climactic level of intensity is immense.
That is actually one of my favorite things about this single.
There are always new tones and textures added to the track the deeper in you go, so by the time you get to that final run-through or chorus, it's just thick with those layers and they come at you with an unbelievable sonic presence that feels like a wave crashing down.
All of that also adds to the sentiment, tonality, but also emotion of the track as well.
This is a single to be listened to carefully and more than once so that you can really pick up on everything that it gives off, totally, but also lyrically.
"Heart Attack" is an alternative-pop opus of sorts, and you should check it out right now.
Remember where you heard this first.
