A fresh new single release from RinRin comes through with a colorful and edgy approach and the combination of those two things works extremely well for this track in particular because it has a heavy pop rock and punk backbone but also a pop coating as it blends heavy guitars with electronic beats and poppy vocals.
"IM SAD LOL" is a vivacious and charismatic single that's packed with personality and delivers quite a bit of honesty in the approach which makes it fun but also genuine at the same time.
You can tell this certainly came from someplace real and the delivery of everything has such a uniquely impactful feeling to it because you understand everything that she's saying, and you can relate to it to the point where certain lines make you think of situations or people of your own and memories may even pop into your head.
So, that relatability is strong with this track but it's such a great way to take that honesty and spend it into something that has a bright and bouncy feel to it while still keeping to that rock tonality.
The beat is fast and almost like a jungle beat to an extent, coated in pop and the guitars are heavy and deliver a melodic pop-punk approach bordering on alternative rock for certain parts because, towards the second section of the song, there is a big explosive part where the guitars get a bit louder and heavier, and things grow in intensity.
It's kind of like an emo pop soiree and it's done super well with a lot of attention to detail, especially in the arrangement and how everything came together but it also has this authentic undertone to it, and this is part of what you get attached to when you listen to the song.
There's a brilliant youthful cry out that makes perfect sense when you listen to this track and for me, it was even a little bit nostalgic. Not musically, but the sentiment of the song and its meaning. Where it came from.
It's because it was so emotionally driven in reality and the emotions that drove the song have that youthful feel and understanding.
There are things you feel a lot more when you're young, so it makes a lot of sense that this song affected me a certain way.
RinRin is what I like to call part of the future of music. It's being able to bend genres at free will and creating songs with no walls built around them. This is exactly what she's doing with this track, and I feel like this is part of where music is going in general.
Being able to twist genres and create something that feels familiar but comes through genuine and fresh is important in today's world musically.
For me, artists like RinRin are right at the forefront of that.
This song had a freeing tonality to it like it felt good to write and release for the artist.
Because of that, it felt good to listen to as well.
You can tell she had a great time tracking these vocals because they're done with a unique passion behind them and the whole track brings together that sort of bubbly edginess to a point where it feels like a candy-coated rock banger.
This was the most fun I've had in a long time, and I cannot wait to see what else RinRin comes up with next because this is the kind of artist that I pay attention to simply for the fact that she puts out music that comes from a real place and that breaks boundaries slightly but just enough to really notice it.
A brilliant track that hit hard exactly the way it needed to and came through exactly the way it was meant to, most certainly have a good listen to "IM SAD LOL" and remember where you heard it first.
