The new release from Richard Green pulls together some elements of jazz, electronic, rock, pop, and more, putting them all together to create a very thick atmosphere that becomes riddled with deep-pocketed grooves, along with colorful textures and tones that start delivering high energy, and it's all completely infectious.
There is something strangely cinematic about "Wasted Tears".
The track utilizes really robust synthesizers to give it a lot of drive, along with a beat that is slightly rambunctious and a little wild, but also helps that groove a lot.
The underlying synthesizer gives you a sort of bassline, which is really cool, and the whole thing comes together like puzzle pieces.
This, to me, is like an experiment in sound sculpting. He manages to layer these different tones on top of each other in such a unique way that it comes off colorful, but it's just got a lot of flavor to it.
The song gives you a lot to chew on, and each of the keyboard or synthesizer tones manages to complement the next.
Some of them are used more for rhythm, while others are used to deliver a full-bodied sort of hook. The ones that are delivering those hooks are more upfront, right in your face, and you can't really turn away from them.
Meanwhile, he uses some experimental tones that feel like digital bells, and I love this aspect because it brings to mind certain kinds of classic pop elements.
Some of the sounds that he's using throughout this track are reminiscent of an eighties radio pop style, but he's utilizing them in a cinematic form. It's almost like it's part of the score for a film.
It goes through a little bit of changes and rises and falls in intensity, so it feels like a really well-built composition that's meant to take you on a bit of a ride. This is exactly what it manages to do.
I love the way the percussion is put together because the beat isn't just standard or straightforward. As I mentioned earlier, it's a little bit wild, but although it boasts that cinematic backbone, you can still dance to it.
So it seems to be a combination of an almost symphonic, slightly orchestrated approach with a pop undertone, and bringing those two elements together is really what makes this track thrive.
Later in the track, you have some new synths that are introduced, and they play faster-paced melodies, keeping that excitement level at a good height but also building in new melodies on top of the others so that the song changes direction and gives you a little bit of surprise.
This is definitely a track that does boast some surprises around its corners, but it's also composed really well with a lot of thought towards Arrangement.
As I said before, it takes you on a bit of a journey, and I think that's what it's meant for.
There is a sort of emotional roller coaster attached to the sentiment behind this track, and those emotions range as the track unfolds.
I definitely love the way he's unafraid to experiment with all these different sounds. All the different synthesizers and keys come together to build the song out so that it just feels huge and hits with a very unique sonic presence.
Now, if you're unfamiliar with the sounds of Richard Green up until now, this is a great track to introduce you to; however, I would also choose just listening to some of his other recent releases, as they do showcase other sides of his artistry.
Songs like "Ghosting", one of his most recent, give you an even thicker blend of the cinematic and the pop.
While others like "The Climb" base themselves around groove, hints of funk, jazz, and more.
So, they're all different influences that the composer and artist pull together to create his music, and he doesn't really hold back depending on how he's feeling.
The ability to blend all of those influences in different ways is outstanding.
Richard has a series of releases dating back to 2020, and it is unbelievably fun to listen to everything and hear the evolution of his approaches to songwriting.
This is definitely an experienced composer who's really able to allow your mind to go free and paint different pictures in your head as songs unfold.
Upon listening to "Wasted Tears" and more, I knew I wanted to talk with him about how he does his thing.
So, as you dig through his music, read our interview with Richard Green below.
Remember where you heard it first.
Where did this track come from?
Well, as most of my music, from my feelings and my life experiences, in this case i was thinking about an old experience of mine from three years ago and Wasted Tears wanna represent the tears dropped for something that did not really deserve them.
I am hearing a few different styles on this song. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
i Grew up listening to the Beatles since i was really a kid, like 3 years old, this is because my father is a huge fan of them and i guess this is why my music tend to be very melodic at first, maybe in different style and atmosphere but my music most of the time is very melodic and i think it stems from those years listening Beatles music and more, I can say that music has been a part of my life since i was 2-3 years old.
Are you performing live right now?
No and honestly it s not what i m looking for now, I m focusing on create music that it s what i like most and I think it s there where my talent lies, i mean, creativity.
How did this all start for you as an artist?
When I've finished my higher school in Italy I decided to improve as guitar at my best and I went to London to study music, then during my musician degree in London I've discovered that what I like most is create my music instead be a session musician and after my music studies in London and few years with a part time job, I've decided to focus on making music only.
Did you do this on a home DAW? What is your set up like?
I m working on different project and I use my home studio but I have a very important music studio in my hometown and when necessary i go there too, by the way my electronic music project has been created and produced all in my home studio but mixed and mastered in that important music studio (STUDIO ELFO,ITALY-Piacenza )
My set up in my home studio is one keyboard and one synth Roland , plus a Gibson Les paul and a fender Stratocaster custom 62' and one acoustic guitar but I m looking to implement it with new stuff during this year.
What's next for you? Working on more new releases?
I like to work in advance so I can tell you I have my releases all planned for all this year and I m already working on my next year project, by the way this year are going to be release a new single in few days and a music Ep in June,(Electronic Therapy) that is the music ep with Wasted Tears as one of the six track of the ep.
Then I m gonna release other two music single and another music Ep in September-October.
What kind of advice would you give to other up and coming bands or artists trying to get heard?
That music world now days is a cruel business with an insane competition, so sacrifice and perseverance are absolutely necessary, but without forgetting to enjoy what we do, that s the key in order to support our sacrifices and efforts in our projects.
What would you say people can expect to hear on this song?
That is a quite melodic piece of music but at the same time quite aggressive to i think, it s a very original piece of electronic music with particular and interesting melodies i think, good to listen at home and good to dance on it as well i think.
Before we go, what would you want to express to fans of the music?
Gratitude to everyone who has listened and to those who will listen to my music,
I hope i can send something to them, which I believe is one of the purpose of music as art form to bring people together...to connect them.
