A fresh album release from Quinta Essentia comes through with a massive soiree of hard and heavy-hitting metal soundscapes and wastes absolutely no time as it all comes rolling in with a blistering approach from the very first track you hear.
The Evolution of Ethereal Wisdom is an album that seamlessly blends the best elements of blackened, death, melodic, gothic, and thrash metal, doing so with such precision and ferocity that it's impossible to look away.
"Akasha" is the very first song and as I mentioned before, it doesn't waste much time in terms of hitting you with immense and precise drumming with rolling double kicks and a heavy hand along with trudging refs and wild, bending lead guitars that open up into this edgy and rumbling death metal feel.
There are a lot of moments on this record where you can hear some vastness in the undertones of these songs and I think that a lot of the tracks have amazing layers to them but what grabs you is the performances.
The energy across this record is insane. It almost feels like these guys performed it live in a room together so it puts you right in the moment in its own way.
It feels like everyone involved is feeding off each other the entire time and that's part of what gives these songs such a massive sonic presence.
Even if they didn't record it live, listening to the record makes you want to go see them perform it in your face because if you can capture this kind of energy on record so well then seeing it live must be a real face-melter.
There is a ton of thrashing guitars and drums throughout this entire relief and songs like "The Lesser Keys" display some of that melodic undertone along with the speed metal feel that they give off.
Again, it all has this sort of ancient and gothic feeling theme to it which I absolutely loved and you can tell these guys have a real love for their craft as well. When I say that I don't just mean playing instruments, I mean writing songs together that have this massive impact to them.
Now, there are tracks on this record that display the more widespread and approaches and they do it incredibly well. Songs like "Immemorial" deliver exactly that with less trudging and more open chords along with winding lead guitars and these melodic vocals are performed amazingly with a low and high octave.
I love the feel of vocals that have a low and high octave together because it adds thickness to the performance and an added layer to the atmosphere of the song, believe me, the song has a massive atmosphere but the entire record does as well.
This is an album that you listen to from beginning to end. You don't just listen to one or two songs because it won't give you the full spectrum of what the album has to offer in full.
There are plenty of surprises around the corners and intense guitar work and energy that bring waves of intensity with them.
The vocal performance throughout this entire record is at times, again, melodic and well-built but at other times it can be more fierce or grueling in terms of the screaming. This is where the death metal elements come in stronger.
Again, these guys really composed an amazing album that brings together so many metal subgenres in one record all, at times, with a furious and fiery approach.
The musicianship is outstanding. People who don't listen to a lot of metal or death metal don't understand what it takes to put an album like this together.
This whole band can release a jazz record right now if they feel like it. They are masters of their instruments.
But, as I mentioned, it's the way they write and arrange the songs along with their intense performances that give this its edginess, energy, and punch.
This is a big record. Some songs span almost 7 minutes in length. If you put them all together it's quite a metal opus if you will.
I would definitely suggest going through this record in one shot so that you can soak in everything that it has to offer.
The guitars are brilliant and there is a lot going on in terms of delivering a record that is not only memorable but has an eerie way of sticking with you.
The record is an escape. It pulls you away from whatever you're doing and puts you in a whole different world for a bit.
If you are a fan of thrash, speed, death, or even melodic metal, this album is 100% for you, and be sure to listen to it in full, and loud.
Take a deep dive into this album when you can and remember where you heard it first.
