Put MegaDestroyer’s “Beneath the Lights” on Your Radar

“If there is one song that defines my career, I think this is it.”

Colin Moore sounds pretty damn pleased with MegaDestroyer’s new single. There’s plenty to be pleased about: “Beneath the Lights” gives the Omaha band’s pop-rock songwriting a confident showcase, with Moore’s strong vocal delivery and a chorus built to become somebody’s latest obsession.

The trio has covered some ground since forming in 2024. Earlier releases “STEAM” and “Parachutes” established its alternative rock and pop-punk roots; this time, electronic pop joins the mix. The polish suits them. So does letting a beautifully crafted song do the talking.

What gives it further personality is the adult perspective underneath all that groovy appeal. Moore writes about the baffling speed at which being a kid with plans becomes being an adult with expenses. The title reaches for the moments that make the effort worthwhile, particularly the thrill of an audience singing your words back at you.

That’s an easy thing to connect with, even if your own musical career happens mostly behind a steering wheel.
