Nordly Is Back With A Very Inviting And Wholehearted New Indie-Pop Single

A beautifully woven new single from Nordly comes through with such a warm sentiment that really captures some of the amazement of not just love, but a certain kind of love that you only get in particular situations. This is not a song about just any loving relationship, but rather one about what it's like to have a child.
"Leo" showcases some of the innocence and intensity that it comes with. If you are a parent, you can probably understand exactly where the song is coming from, simply because you are filled with a certain kind of love you never even knew existed beforehand.
This is such a gorgeous and articulate way to describe how boundless the feeling can be. They get into metaphoric and straightforward, detailed and descriptive usage of words that just clarify that incredible feeling it is to have a child.
They are an extension of yourself in so many different ways, but it's really just about how the emotional aspects of it know very few boundaries, and I feel like they really put that in place amazingly.
The instrumental aspect of the song goes right along with the sentiment, creating this bright and forward-moving mood that is just as warm as the words are.
This is kind of like an indie-pop single that brings guitars and classic percussion into the mix so you have something that feels welcoming, inviting, and it all has a way of grabbing you.
This is a duo that is not afraid to branch out when it comes to creating music. Which is already enough to give the songs authenticity, and loads of personality in terms of their songwriting approaches; they sort of write what's in the moment for them.
The drum beat is kind of driving but not over the top. Everything is very well balanced in terms of the energies and dynamics of the entire track.
The drums give the drive for the song, which helps it have that natural kind of approach.
There are a couple of guitar tracks that are clean, possibly acoustic, and those give you that sort of bright or slightly colorful tonality and texture.
The way the guitars and vocals come through are really complementary to each other.
They sort of clit together like puzzle pieces, which is something that's not new for this duo, but in this song particularly, the tones come together and create something that pulls you in and, instead of just getting your attention, starts telling you a story.
There are all kinds of additional little guitar parts here and there, scattered throughout the track, which add a little bit more layers and even depth to the song that's already focusing on something very real and almost fantastical.
The vocals are always giving these different hugs. The melodies during the verses are really good, but what really hits are those melodic hooks that they throw in there and the way that they lay those down.
One of my favorite aspects about this track is the way that they both sing on it.
This is a duo where both male and female vocalists are performing, and because of that, it really adds a unique sound.
They're performing the same melodies, one in a lower octave and one in a higher octave.
This is a way to sort of thicken up the way the song feels. It feels more full-bodied because of the way they do that.
What's cool is that they're almost identical in terms of the little intonations that they're performing. They are really spot on with each other, and it gives the song a certain kind of tightness throughout this indie-pop-riddled aesthetic.
For me, I'm picking up on some classic, almost indie rock vibes. I feel like maybe they are influenced by bands like The Pixies, for example. You can hear some of these different approaches coming in, because the song has that hint of edginess, mostly due to the drums.
The cool thing is how they pull those influences together to create something all their own.
This is a very personal song that hits the right way. It is emotional but it's not overwhelmingly performed. Instead, it's all done with that understanding of dynamics.
They want the song to have a certain kind of flow, which it absolutely does. They wanted to have a particular kind of excitement, flavor, and blend of genres which, I would definitely say, is between elements of indie rock, Indie pop, folk, singer-songwriter, and even hints of contemporary.
If this is your first go at listening to Nordly, then I highly suggest listening to some of their previous releases like "Afterwaves", and most certainly "Punctured Balloon".
If you dig "Leo", then you are bound to really love their other stuff. They have such a great sound and have really paved their path in this sort of indie-pop realm for quite some time now.
They're not really concerned with what people think, but rather with creating songs that have meaning to them, and that makes it all genuine.

Hello and welcome back!! Thanks for taking the time with us! Let's get right into "LEO"!
Where did this track come from and what is it about?
The song “Leo” came out of an emotional reaction to some Strange and confusing messages we reserved in the healthcare system. It became a Way of processing those feelings and turning Them into Something creative. Musically the song is inspired by the danish “the Raveonettes” and “Cigarettes after sex”. The song is about love and the incredible power our son was born with. And about the overwhelming love that comes with bringing af child into the world.
We wanted our song to capture that power.
How did this all start for you as a duo?
We stared out as a duo in 2019 in Valby, copenhagen. Just like we did back then, we still like to take turns work to lyrics and often creative quite spontaneously, based on a feeling or a particular moment.
Do you write songs together, or do one of you have a bunch of ideas you take to the other?
Most of the time AnnaMia start with the lyrics , While Frederik is more focused on the chords and the musical side. When it comes to the final stage of the song we both get involved in every part of the process.
Do you perform live?
We Are now looking ahead to two live shows in Copenhagen including a show at Råhuset.
Was this recorded at a bigger studio, or a home DAW setup?
The song Leo was recorded and produced in Stockholm with Petter Nygårdh, who is also a member of the band Many voices speak. Working with Petter in Stockholm gave the song the sound and atmosphere we’re very happy with.
Was it self produced?
“Leo” is mixed and mastered by Frederik Lautrup, who is a member of the danish band Gorgeous - a band we also is very inspired by.
It was a great pleasure to have Frederik work on the song.
Are you working on new material right now?
Right now we’re working on new songs that build on the sound and feeling of “Leo”. We really exited to continue our collaboration with both Petter and Frederik and see where the Music takes us next.
What would you say people can expect from this release?
With this release people can expect a song with a more pop-rock sound a little more power, energy and intensity than some of our previous work.
You have been at this for some time and doing amazingly! What kind of advice would you have for other up and coming artists out there?
Our advice to other up and coming artists would be to stay true to who You Are and not get too caught up in what other people Think . Belive in your own style and stand by the Music you want to make.

Before we go, what would you like to express to fans of the music?
We hope our fans can here we’re taken our Music in a new direction and found our place in a Swedish - English soundscape. It feels like a natural evolution for us, while still staying true to who we are as artists .
