The latest single release from Nick Rannikko delivers a combination of edgy overtones but with smooth and vast undertones simultaneously as the track boasts this blend of house, dance-pop, elements of synthwave, EDM, and so much more. It's all rolled into one piece of music so, throughout this, you get sort of engulfed in the entire soundscape of it all.
"Sight of You" is a track that feels almost ever-changing but with the same backbone it started with so, as it unfolds you get new synth and ketones that come in and out, these pads that float through the ether of the track giving it that expansive and vast underbelly, and these vocoded sounding vocals that come through feeling sort of bubbly and colorful in a way.
Because of all this, you get that combination of color and edginess blended really well but it also has a danceable approach and a cinematic feel at times so it's a lot to soak in, especially in terms of all the layers and textures that are going on.
You can hear these subtle nods to classic '90s-style electronic and even hip-hop in the background. There's a lot of gorgeous production that went into this to the point where you can certainly tell a lot of attention to detail was paid during the creation of this track.
I am especially a fan of the way the song grows and progresses. It takes you on a bit of a musical journey through its almost 4-minute span and you sort of can't help but move your body to it.
That house element is pretty strong here and that's what makes your butt start shaking in your seat however, there's a high level of experimental and again, sort of progressive production approaches here that make this outside-the-box and super fun.
The energy level of this track is also amazing. It's got such a balance between the textures, layers, sounds, tonalities, and energies as well.
It makes you want to get up and dance but it's also soothing and calming in a strange way even though it's upbeat technically.
The deeper into this song you go, the more elements of different kinds of electronic music you get. Later on, you can pick up elements of classic trance in there and more.
This was a sort of infectious track that pulls you in right away and ends up letting you sort of escape into this other world for a moment in time which I look at as a gift in music.
Once again, I definitely love that subtle element of blending in old school with this new school approach. You can tell this comes from someone who has a pure love for what he's doing.
I certainly dig how the vocal approach on this is so avant-garde but works well for the tonality and energy of the song and how all the combinations of elements create an atmosphere that you end up falling right into.
This is the kind of song you can get engulfed in and eventually washed away with.
Upon listening to this track, I took a bit of a deep dive into the back catalog of Nick Rannikko on Spotify, and I'm happy I did because I found a handful of releases that took me by surprise including a full-length album from 2022 that was outstanding.
The album from 2022 is called Where Am I? and does an amazing job of showcasing his abilities as a producer, engineer, and songwriter as a whole.
You get all kinds of elements, once again, of different approaches and styles, textures and tones and he's just having a blast doing this stuff.
I would suggest not only listening to this track but listening to that album as well and when you do both of these things, do it with headphones on because it's one of the best ways to soak in all of the tones and all of the layers that are happening throughout these tracks.
Once again, you get pulled into an atmosphere and when you listen to it with headphones you can pick up on everything going on.
Don't just take my word for it though, dive into these and remember where you heard it first.
