Kacey Fifield Drops A Pop-Rock Single A lot of Us Can Relate To

Kacey Fifield is back with a new single that most certainly breeds a punk undertone with a pop-rock overtone, coming through with edgy guitars but vocals that feel almost bubbly, never really letting go of her pop sensibility, mainly because she really knows how to write a catchy song while still giving little pieces of who she is in there.

Kacey is pretty outstanding at storytelling. Even when it's from a personal perspective, like this track is, you pretty much get the full picture, and the song itself is very relatable as it revolves around a romantic relationship that it seems no one knows about. Perhaps it's like a secret rendezvous type of thing or a simpler, flirtatious situation, but she just doesn't tell anyone about it, keeping it all to herself.

But it's also about how, when that whole thing ends, you find yourself wanting to go back for more. That person has something that you may be a little bit addicted to, and sometimes you don't see that until after it's over.

"Hotter In Hindsight" displays that notion super well, and Kacey doesn't hold much back lyrically either. She gets pretty descriptive and throws little hints of emotion in there but keeps things very light-hearted.

As I said before, it's kind of a pop-rock single, and that light-heartedness keeps things colorful and balanced while still letting her dig into that situation from her perspective. When you listen to the track, you definitely feel where she's coming from on it.

Even if it's not a secretive type of thing, we've all been with someone that we look back on and kind of want a little more, even after it's been over.

While it's happening, you may ask yourself why you're doing it in the first place. But once it has ended, you sort of realize why you were doing it in the first place after all.

The track has that youthful pop vibe, and Kacey gives off her sort of classic, vibrant vocal approach while still keeping things well-balanced dynamically as well. Her excitement level hits peaks at certain points, but she's never really over the top with things. She wants to make sure that you understand the sort of carefree aspect of it and how not serious it really is.

The chorus of this track has a very early 2000s sort of punkish sound to it. It feels like a very radio-friendly single, but one that was on the radio during that time. I love this because I grew up with some of that stuff, and those are the songs that really took over the airwaves in a certain era of music.

I feel like she's calling upon those influences and just letting them rip in this song.

It is a very memorable chorus; it's vivacious, fun, it's got attitude all over it, and it sort of bounces around in your brain after it's all over.

The song also has great drive coming from those drums, and the guitar tones are damn near perfect, giving you that alternative feel but, once again, not pushing things too far. The pop is really the thing that sticks the most, and again, this is because she just knows how to put that element in whatever genre she's focusing on.

She's also a bit animated at times with her vocals. There's a little bridge section where it's just guitars and vocals, and she's singing with her head voice in all these high notes. During that part, it's got an extra flavor to it. I love how she goes right into character throughout this whole track and never lets go of that.

Kacey is a natural at delivering loads of character in her songs, and this is definitely an amazing single to open up the door for others if you haven't had the pleasure of listening to her stuff before this.

She's got a bunch of other songs that actually showcase her range of songwriting and production in terms of the different genres she puts together. She's got other songs that hit that pop-rock and punk undertone element, but she also has indie pop songs and even ones that feel a bit contemporary at times.

"Selfish" comes through as a kind of theatrical pop ballad, but it's very honest, and she really lays it out there in terms of those lyrics without any walls built around it.

"Blameless" gives off amazing vocal harmonies and approaches where she sort of bends those notes and, once again, gets kind of animated with things, all in a bit of an indie pop or even cinematic pop style.

So, as I mentioned before, this new track is great to introduce you to her with, but I definitely suggest digging into some of her back catalog; she's got loads of great material that shows all these different sides of her character, personality, songwriting, and more.

She's got releases dating back to 2015 on her Spotify, and there are plenty of songs to soak in, most of them giving you a lot to chew on.

We were lucky enough to have a little Q&A with her as well on the track and more, so dig into that while you listen to these songs, but again, make sure you start with "Hotter In Hindsight".

Dig into this now and remember where you heard it first.

What is the song about?

“HOTTER IN HINDSIGHT” is an edgy, pop-rock single flirting with the emotional tug of war of a secret love. Fifield pairs pop-rock vocal melodies reminiscent of Avril Lavigne, punk guitar riffs, and energetic drum fills with a cinematic, espionage-themed music video to recreate the intensity of a forbidden romance.

What was the inspiration behind the song?

I came up with the phrase “hotter in hindsight” to be a catchy way to capture the feeling of being more interested in someone after the moment of opportunity has passed. I love alliteration, relatable lyrics, and pop-rock production, so I combined all of them to create this song!

Who wrote the song? Who produced it?

Written by Kacey Fifield, Luke Volkert, and Sloane Simon. Produced by Luke Volkert.
