Iyla Elise Returns with a new single

“Dark Side of My Heart” by Iyla Elise doesn’t rush to declare its genre. It drifts somewhere between pop, folk, and rock, but never fully lands in any one place, and that’s part of what makes it compelling. The track unfolds with a kind of quiet confidence, each section arriving with its own distinct sonic identity. I kept finding new textures to focus on, acoustic strums giving way to moody electric lines, rhythms tightening and loosening like a breath being held and released.

What really pulled me in was the structure.

There is intention behind every shift, like Elise is sketching out emotional terrain in real time. Her vocal performance carries a slow-building urgency, and by the time the chorus lands, it feels like the ground has subtly shifted beneath you. I was especially struck by how the song manages to explore vulnerability without falling into lyrical shortcuts. The writing steers clear of tired phrases and instead leans into something more personal, more lived in. The emotions do not shout. They move in waves.

It is a deceptively layered track, and the more I sat with it, the more it revealed. “Dark Side of My Heart” might not demand your attention at first, but it earns it.
