A new EP from Gonzo LeBronzo brings out a refreshingly edgy but also somewhat classic feeling EP in the form of a blend of garage rock, grunge, and alternative rock along with some great little bouts of indie rock and so much more all rolled into one fat EP that just becomes more addicting the deeper and you listen to it.
The American Roulette EP is riddled with character and outside-the-box guitar work and vocals and these are the elements that really make this a unique release.
There's definitely a heavy element of grunge and a punchy alternative rock undertone happening a lot throughout this record, but it also carries with it a personality that you end up getting attached to just as much as anything else on the record and this is also what helps drive the record forward as well.
Some of the riffs on this release are just massive and they come through with an immense sonic drive that helps push the envelope but it also has an inventive sense of arrangements and composition because the songs do have these great little breakdowns and creative vocal approaches that you normally wouldn't hear a lot on a record like this one so I feel like this was created with a lot fewer boundaries than the norm.
This is an absolutely wonderful thing because although it does give you little hints of nostalgia here and there especially if you grow up in the 90s or early 2000s listening to some great grunge and heavy rock bands, it also brings in something new to the table and that element of looseness and animated vocals make things pop.
It's been a while since I've heard anything that hit me the way this record does. It is edgy and some elements are a bit over the top but it's all in a good way.
Augmented chords and amazing guitar tone in combination with slamming drums and this energy that makes you feel like it was all recorded live on the floor.
I think I enjoy the fact that you can hear that sort of 90s radio rock involved as well and with each different track you can hear a slew of influences shining through here and there.
The vocals can be used as instruments at times for backing tracks adding layers to the songs and on the forefront, they're very melodic but also have a particular energy that matches the music very well somehow.
You can hear bits of punk rock influence in certain tracks, that classic 90s grunge, and just tons of other stuff happening throughout the record so it's really hard to just pinpoint a genre that the whole album gives off because each song brings those little different elements to the table.
This is the kind of EP that you have to listen to from beginning to end because if you listen to just one or two tracks, you might get a little gist of what may be to come but you will not get the full spectrum of what the record has to offer as a whole.
These songs hit hard, they're melodic, they're driving, they're charismatic, they're vibrant, and the energy is electric the entire time.
It's a little bit more of an experience than just an EP and I love hearing those elements of vastness in some of the undertones of the tracks and some of that emotional drive that gives you the sense that a lot of the lyrical content came from someplace genuine.
For me, someone who grew up listening to heavy rock in the 90s, this record was amazing. It gave me all the 'warm and fuzzies' I would be looking for and more.
There were a few surprises around the corners but the release as a whole was insanely satiating.
I would strongly suggest once again, to listen to the whole EP so that you can soak everything in properly and remember where you heard it first.
