Frederick James Gives Us Some Notes of Inspiration With His New EP Release

A brand new EP release from Frederick James delivers a wonderfully woven cross of folk, pop-rock, classic rock, and more, all packed into this four-track release that speaks volumes for the artist, especially in terms of delivering heavy-handed messaging with his lyrics, and really being able to pull you into his world for a little chunk of time.
The songs on this record are so relatable that at times, it almost feels like some of them could serve as the soundtrack to one of the chapters of your own life.
This has a lot to do with how we articulate those lyrics. They are descriptive, but they're coming from a personal perspective, so he's letting a lot out and not building walls around his approach.
The honesty he delivers throughout a lot of these songs gives the whole record personality and character, which is something that you end up holding on to throughout its course.
The release is called Let Me Give You A Good Day, and it kicks off with a track called "Pound of Flesh", which comes through with a unique time signature that I really enjoy, but it also has these deep, almost bowed upright bass strings being played underneath it all, which really gave it a thick, cinematic backbone.
This really helped the emotional aspect of the track a lot, and it's a song that I took as one of the more personal ones because it focuses on the day-to-day. The struggles of everyday life, the internal thoughts that you have, and the light at the end of the tunnel.
We are all on borrowed time. This song kind of spins itself around the fact that we can all look at that time as a gift rather than a burden.
Yes, we all go through hurdles in life. That's just how life is. It's our ability to get back up and jump those hurdles that defines us as people.
It's a song about being strong and powering through; knowing that there are things to be grateful for and moving forward.
Now, this is how I interpreted the song, while others may take it a little differently.
I like interpreting it this way simply because I related to it automatically. This is a song I connected with, and when I mentioned songs feeling like they could have been part of the soundtrack to certain chapters in our own lives, this is exactly the song I meant.
The title track of the record is one of my favorites. It has such a warm set of tones coming from the electric guitars, and a very welcoming and melodically forward vocal approach that reminds me of certain classic rock artists like Tom Petty, for example.
Again, blending in some of the folk elements into play is something he just does naturally, but this has more of a pop-rock brightness to it that sort of invites you.
"Walking Through Hell" most certainly follows suit in terms of the sentiment of getting through struggles. It's definitely a little bit more straightforward in terms of that aspect, and the hook on this one is brilliant. This has a super memorable chorus that feels lush with all kinds of layers of guitars, and robust vocals that give a lot of flavor.
At this point, the record you start to realize that a lot of this is about being strong through the tough parts of life.
It's kind of high-spirited and impactful in terms of its sentiment.
This is a record that really helps you view life in a certain way. I think we all need music like this to give us a little bit of a lift here and there.
It's not sugar-coated, because again, it focuses a lot on how life gets hard, but also on triumph over that.
We need songs like this to sort of empower us. They're not happy-go-lucky; they're honest, real, and authentic.
This is what real Artistry is all about. Letting those thoughts come through crystal clear. These are songs that came from that real place within Frederick, and because he's able to display the messaging so well, it all makes perfect sense.
The EP closes with "Under The Clocks", which in my opinion is a great song to end the record with.
This is most certainly a release you should listen to all the way through, in one shot. It's just over 14 minutes in length.
This is for fans of genuine music that comes from the heart, showcases loads of personality, and is unafraid to be real with you.
It's also got that beautiful set of tones that are incredibly warm and welcoming, along with that outstanding blend of classic rock, folk, and pop-rock.
