Leave it up to Fitzkee Brothers to bring together some of the best elements of southern, classic rock, and give it all a pop sensibility.
The brothers are known for delivering all kinds of raw energy on both recording and during live performances, but this track captures something bright. It's colorful, fun, super catchy, and still has a lot of that thriving classic rock running through its veins, with guitar work that stands out and vocals that are oozing with soul.
The track opens up with a fun, almost quirky sort of riff, stripped down to guitar and drums at the beginning. This kind of gives you the vibe of the track right from the start. When the drums come in, you can start to feel that pop element.
I do love the riff on this song. It's very inventive, and it works so amazingly with the vocal approach, simply because the vocals are big. They are robust and have this boisterous kind of tone.
The time signature and drumbeat are a little different, very addictive, and still give you that deep-pocketed groove that you expect from the guys.
Groove is a massive part of how they write their songs. They always make sure that, although they are rock singles, you can dance to them.
There's something about this track that makes you catch on quickly. You find yourself singing along pretty early on, and they definitely don't hold back from putting out this addictive energy on record.
As I mentioned earlier, these guys are also known for their live performances, having performed and shared stages with some amazing and classic bands, but on record, they somehow portray that electricity the same way.
There's also almost always a bit of personality attached.
"Came A Little Closer" (feat. Jaden Lehman & Destiny "tk" Pivonka), puts a little perspective on getting flustered by somebody.
It's kind of like how it feels when you're around somebody that makes you feel excited and you try and put yourself together or stay cool, but you end up tripping over yourself or forgetting what you were doing.
That's kind of the aesthetic or vibe that it gives. The lyrics are really well placed and I really like how they come from that semi-vulnerable perspective.
The guys also like to experiment here and there and there are no two songs that are really super alike. They're influenced by tons of different bands and styles of music, from classic rock greats to folk, soul, jam and loads more.
The cool thing is, a lot of this shows in their songs. This track alone showcases a lot of those different influences in one shot.
There's also incredible instrumentation flowing through the veins of this one.
There are horns, it sounds like a saxophone, rolling through and giving it a different tone and texture to everything, upping that color and flavor, making things pop even more, along with some guitar solos that are just unreal.
Some of the lead guitar work on this track is beyond. The licks are tasteful and performed with swagger.
Now, they aren't afraid to rock out either. At certain sections, like when the saxophone is going off on its solo, the guitars are really driving with a great distortion.
Vocally, this is perfectly done in my opinion. During a lot of the verses, it's one track. It's done in that classic style, putting out all that soulful and thick-toned approach, and then, in other parts of the song, the vocal tracks are doubled.
During those parts, it's more about the melodies that they're performing. Those are the elements that stick in your head.
You have to really love a song that comes at you from all angles the way this one does.
It's got vocal hooks but it also has instrumental hooks, saxophone and guitar solos that are to die for, lively drums, letting the band push off of them and creating a bit of a powerhouse approach, but still making sure that the groove element is on the forefront, and everyone involved just puts out a bit of an intense energy that isn't overdone, but instead perfectly balanced, so you have a track that you just get into.
This track feels good to listen to. It feels better to listen to it really loud.
It's the kind of song that you hear, and you immediately want to see the guys perform it live.
It's got that aesthetic.
It's got pianos that come in and add yet another layer to everything, letting more of that energy burst shine and the entire presence of the song really Thrive.
It's just packed.
It's pretty unforgettable, and if you're not familiar with Fitzkee Brothers track to get hit with first.
If I were you, after this track is over, you should check out their last one, "Never Works Out", showcasing a little bit more of their psychedelic Rock element along with the smooth grooving "Lake Song", released in 2024.
All of their songs managed to show you different sides of how they write their music, how they perform, and their many influences.
No matter what, they always put something together that's memorable and kind of gives you a great time.
There's always a kaleidoscope of energy and color coming from their performances, even on record.
So, dive into the new track now, but after that, go back. Go through some of these singles they have on their Spotify page.
You'll hear the rock, the soul, the psychedelic, and everything in between.
Remember where you heard it first.
