An inspirational new single from EJAY Since 12:05 delivers quite an honest and impactful approach in the form of a hip-hop and rap track that holds very little back in the way of opening up and letting a lot of inner thought come spilling out for all to soak in. This is part of why the song comes through in such a connective manner. I feel like this is one of the more relatable songs I've heard in a long time, and part of the reason for that is because of the way that he articulates his lyrics.
"Fourth of June (Imma Warrior So I Won't Go Easily)" is a track simply about being a man. Not just that, but a certain kind of man. One who has to fight through his struggles and find the light at the end of the tunnel, remembering that he is here to fight.
This is an important sentiment simply because every man goes through all kinds of internal struggles. It could be financial, emotional, or physical. The point is that if you are a person trying to take care of your family, and it's your job to financially support them, that in turn can affect you in an emotional sense.
Life comes with all kinds of stresses, and the song goes into detail about being a man in that position. Having to put food on the table, pay the bills, and deal with all the stress and strife that comes with that, but still knowing what the purpose is, underneath it all, finding the light at the end of the tunnel, fighting through it, and realizing that you want to be the best you can.
It's not about being the best you can for yourself, it's about being the best you can free your family. This is important.
Obviously, I'm someone who can relate, and I think millions of other people can as well.
One of the biggest reasons the song works is because of how detailed he is with his lyrics. The way he describes the situations and how it drives him to aim higher and higher.
He was created for this. Made or built for it. This is such a great purpose, and the song delves deep into all the emotional aspects that go along with it, which I find brave.
This is actually quite a vulnerable track because of how honest it is and how descriptive it can be.
The production on this song is on fire the entire time. It's very cinematic and builds into these heavy-hitting beats with vast undertones, and it really works perfectly for not just the lyrics, but the way the vocals are performed as well.
The wrapping gets into the detail on everything super well with amazing lyrical phrasing, and again, this outstanding detail that really paints the picture perfectly.
The choruses are flowing and have great melodic hooks in an R&B style, which also dynamically balances the song so incredibly well, and also gives you memorable hooks that stick in your brain for hours after the song is ended.
You can tell a lot of attention went into the arrangement and actual recording of this track. Certain parts have double-tracked vocals, adding a thickness and depth to the soundscape, and the song already has so many great layers to it that there's plenty to soak in.
Most importantly, this track has personality to it. The character behind the song is authentic and you can feel that it comes from someplace real which is why it has the impact that it does.
The track is riddled with keys, synthesizers, and a robust approach that delivers quite a punch but also helps shape the song's aesthetic and how it thrives from the positivity and focusing on the spirit of what the song is about.
The music actually follows and pushes the vocals to these amazing points that really help drive this song.
This was a song that hit me pretty hard, and again, this is because of how the lyrics were written and how clear-cut and open they were.
The entire song was completely unafraid and even feels like it was probably cathartic for the artist to write and release.
I definitely feel like this is an Anthem for men like him and me. This is a song that I needed to hear because sometimes, when you're going through those kinds of struggles...the struggles of just being a man taking care of his family, listening to a song like this makes you feel like you're not alone.
Sometimes that's all you need to know.
This was an outstanding single from start to finish and really portrayed exactly what it was meant to.
To go listen to this track and see how it affects you, because I'm sure it will.
Remember where you heard this first.
