Eckotrigger Return With Dark, Emotional New Single “Imposter”
London and Copenhagen-based duo Eckotrigger are back with their new single “Imposter,” a dark and emotional electronic track that explores the difficult process of trying to leave the past behind.
“Imposter” has a strong mixture of synthpop, darkwave, alternative rock, and electronic music. There is a darker atmosphere running through the track, but it never feels completely hopeless. Instead, the song seems to sit somewhere between looking back at difficult experiences and trying to find a way forward.
The band describes the song as being “about trying to cut free from the past as we strive towards our own peace.” That idea comes through strongly in the lyrics, which deal with emotional relapse, memories, and the feeling of being pulled back into places and experiences that you thought you had already moved beyond. The repeated idea that “Nothing stays the same” gives the song an interesting sense of acceptance as it moves forward.
Musically, Eckotrigger build a spacious electronic sound around Joel Alexander’s vocals and Paul Dogra’s production and instrumentation. The darker synth textures and alternative influences give “Imposter” a feeling that should appeal to listeners who enjoy bands that sit somewhere between synthpop, darkwave, and electronic alternative music.
Eckotrigger
Eckotrigger was formed in London by Paul Dogra and Joel Alexander, who came together after spending time in different bands. The two shared an appreciation for artists including Depeche Mode, The Cure, David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, and The National, which helped shape the direction of the project. Their goal was to bring together electronic music and alternative rock while maintaining a strong focus on songwriting.
The duo released their debut single in December 2020, with the accompanying video exploring themes surrounding mental health and addiction. The release received radio attention and was discussed on BBC Radio in connection with mental health, addiction, and the role music can play in dealing with difficult experiences.
Since then, Eckotrigger have continued developing their sound through a series of singles and releases. They signed with Danish electronic label Town & Towers Records in 2022 and have performed at events including Elektroland Festival and Electrofest in Denmark. They have also played shows in the UK and supported Empathy Test during their 2024 anniversary tour.
Their debut album, “Reflections,” arrived in May 2026 on CD and 12-inch vinyl, making “Imposter” an interesting next chapter for the duo.
A Song About Moving Forward
What makes “Imposter” stand out is the emotional honesty behind it. Rather than simply being a dark electronic song, there is a real sense of personal reflection throughout the track. Lines such as “I lay awake / In a sense of doom” immediately establish an uneasy mood, while the recurring idea of an emotional state taking the narrator back to old places reinforces the feeling of being unable to completely escape the past.
There is also something very relatable about the message. Everyone carries memories, experiences, and versions of themselves that can sometimes resurface when they least expect them. “Imposter” takes that feeling and turns it into a moody electronic piece that ultimately seems more interested in acceptance and moving forward than staying trapped in what came before.
With its combination of atmospheric electronics, darkwave influence, alternative rock touches, and emotionally focused songwriting, “Imposter” shows Eckotrigger continuing to build a sound that feels both modern and connected to the darker side of electronic music.
