A short but sweet alt-rock banger from Lives and Dolium brings out a sort of rambunctious attitude and approach, with thriving guitar work, and driving drums, along with a fat, thick low-end coming from the bass guitar, giving the entire track a robust feel that certainly packs a heck of a punch.
"Shame" gives you the feeling of a late 90s alternative rock aesthetic, and this is mostly due to the vocals and guitar work. A lot of the guitar work comes through in layers, and the drum performance is really what lets the song breathe.
The drumming on this track doesn't just sit in the pocket, although it does have some deep pockets when it does, it also pushes the song forward, and I feel like a lot of the rest of the band feeds off of that energy.
The vocals are definitely classic. When I say that, I mean an underground 90s rock sort of classic, bordering on punk rock but also hitting with that alternative edginess we all know and love.
This is a fists-in-the-air sing-along type of track, although it has that heavy rock backbone, it's able to grab you with elements of catchiness, and again, it all happens quickly. This is a song that's over and under 2 minutes, but you definitely don't forget about it.
A lot about this track sticks with you; it's completely addictive, and it's got this amazing energy that feels like you're listening to a live performance.
Perhaps the guys recorded this in one room, at one time. It feels like everyone's feeding off each other the entire time, giving heavy-handed synergy vibes.
Of course, I wasn't there, so I'm not sure how they did it. Listening to it makes you want to go see them play it live.
As I said earlier, it's a bit wild; it's got hints of punk attitude and feel laced throughout its course, and lyrically, it's actually shaming someone. The song is someone calling out a loser.
I love the lyrics because they're so straightforward, and the whole approach to this track is sort of in-your-face. It's unafraid, hard-hitting, and sort of confrontational, which I really liked.
You can definitely hear those elements of regression shining through, especially in the vocals, during both the verse sections and the choruses.
During the verses, the vocals get very punk rock, animated, there's a little bit of an amp simulation or distortion effect on them, giving them a little bit more punch, and again, it's the attitude that really shines through and lets the song feel as aggressive as it does.
I certainly got addicted to the freedom of this track. It just feels so free, open, and the whole thing.
I feel like that's a big part of its intention, as a whole.
The collaboration between Lives and Dolium is absolutely massive and a match made in heavy rock heaven. This was an absolutely memorable track.
Don't be shameful, listen to this track and do it loud.
