Dimorphodons - ‘Stone Little Bird’ (3:48): Video | Smart link | WAV | Soundcloud Label: Hand of Glory | Catalogue number: HOG19D Release date: 13th November 2024 Dimorphodons is Hertfordshire-dwelling multi-instrumentalist, producer, guitar builder, eccentric and visionary Will Twynham, who describes his music as “the fantasy world I’d like to live in.” On new single ‘Stone Little Bird’, Dimorphodons brings a more intimate and dreamlike feel than the in-the-red psych of his previous singles. Real harpsichord is combined with synth bass and Casio beats to create a headphones-on moment, a hypnotic spell that calls to mind the explorative bedroom-producer classic psych of the ’80s. Put it on your mixtape somewhere between Cleaners from Venus and Talk Talk. Twynham says, “This track went on a weird journey, it spawned as a fingerpicked acoustic song, but by the time I was laying down the synth bass I was trying to be Michael Jackson.” The video accompanying ‘Stone Little Bird’ lets the lyric “No one in the world will speak to you” guide the tone. Its moody brutalism mixed with mysterious retro-futurist science fiction depicts communication being attempted. Twynham says, “To me the song has a lo-fi New Romantic feel, so we carried that through to the video and nicked some Cold War imagery” As Dimorphodons, Will Twynham has released a debut EP Searching for Dimorphodons (2020) and single ‘Land Over Sea’ (2021). Under the alias RJ McKendree, Twynham released the album Wallflower (2022), a soundtrack to the Villager by best-selling author Tom Cox. Wallflower explores outsider blues, psychedelia, folk rock, nature and folklore and was described by MOJO as “Rich in wonder, longing and exalted psychedelic flight.” Twynham as RJ McKendree has played a number of festivals and sold-out shows. As a producer, Twynham’s credits include Mary Epworth’s acclaimed album Dream Life and Let’s Eat Grandma’s much lauded debut album I, Gemini. PRESS QUOTES: “A far-out sound, one that mixes squalling psych, chamber-pop and hazy shoegaze.” Shindig! Magazine “A journey into a fantasy world… Heady, lysergic creativity that delves into psychotropic realms.” Clash “Dimorphodons may be the work of a solo artist, but it sounds like the work of a bevy of intense musicians all dressed in lavish gowns attempting to open a door to another world.” CMU Daily “Meet Dimorphodons: The enigmatic, psychedelic rocker with a passion for weird vintage British guitars.” Guitar.com
