A new single from Daforce brings out a really high-energy approach along with a crisp and sort of shimmering hip-hop polish that feels vibrant and very quickly infectious, bringing on deep-pocketed beats along with character-riddled vocals that all have tons of swagger and attitude, but come across refreshing.
"Survival" portrays such an amazing cross between classic hip hop and pop. The beat is heavy-handed, but so is just about everything else, while still bringing a certain element of pop overcoat to the table so that you have a mix of color and edginess along with a super well-produced approach and soundscape that managed to come together seamlessly and fit like puzzle pieces.
A lot of how this works is in the production itself. There are a lot of elements of glitchiness in the underbelly of it, sharpness, and a lot of lush instrumentation that come together. Multiple layers of beats and precaution, synths and keys, and different vocals come in and out, giving a lot to chew on.
Aside from the addictive and very robust energy, the song is insanely danceable. That beat and the groove are undeniable, and I love how they mesh that in with the hip-hop element, hinting towards a bit of grittiness and street vibes, but not going over the top.
There's something very cinematic about this whole thing.
There are loads of vocal melodies that are strewn throughout this single. Some of them are in the background, holding out high notes and adding layers and depth to the song, while others are more upfront, touched with auto-tune, and delivering more melodic hooks for you to bounce on.
The whole thing has a lot going on, but it doesn't feel like it while you're listening to it. It feels straightforward, grooving, and you find yourself bobbing your head along with this one right from the get-go.
The way the vocals come into play is incredible. The wrapping isn't exactly wrapping. It is, but it's also saying, and it's so theatrical, in a sense. The approach with a lot of the vocals is either melodic and hooky, or explosive and in your face.
I think it's the combination of those two elements also, that bring this track to life.
Throughout the song, you also have a lot of lushness and full-bodied sounds. The track is actually comprised not only of multiple layers of beats, percussion, synths and keys that come along with vocals, but there's also bells ringing in the background, guitars with wah effect on them, hinting at this kind of funk undertone, and it all melts into each other naturally.
For a song with so much big instrumentation going on, it's got this forward-moving flow that's unstoppable.
This was one of the more fun hip-hop tracks I've heard in a while.
DaForce teamed up with Div 1 for this, and it clearly worked out. Both of the artists were on the same page, and the song has come to fruition, probably flawlessly.
The wrapping sections are done with plenty of that same swagger, but they're different each time, so you have different approaches to the lyrical phrasing and how everything comes across.
The whole thing is very heavy-handed. If you heard this in the club, you'd be banging your head with it. It's heavy enough to start a mosh pit.
I definitely love that about this track simply because it's been a while since I came across this kind of closed-fisted, heavy-handed, deep-rooted hip hop and pop sound, with such a vivacious and addicting, radio-friendly, and sort of colorful overtone.
You can tell there was a lot of thought that went into creating this track. There was a lot of attention paid to the little details and how the instrumentation will come across, from the tones of those instruments to the final mix of everything.
The track has a massive backbone and hits as hard as it needs to while still coming across bright.
This was an absolute banger and was just a bit outside the box, which is something I certainly liked a lot.
Definitely check this one out as soon as you can and turn it up. This is not the kind of track you listen to at a low volume.
Dive into this one now and remember where you heard it first.
