Corpus Delicti Release A Driving Post-Punk Album and Prepare For A Tour

If you are looking to get that edgy post-punk fix, then I have just the record for you. Corpus Delicti recently released an album riddled with amazing bass guitar tone, classic and vast underbellies, and that sort of dark, almost brooding aesthetic that comes with most vintage and fresh pop-punk approaches.

Liminal is an album that delves into some personal attributes but does so in a way that feels connective and relatable, with lyrics that can be a bit descriptive, which is something I really loved, and they also bring together a flurry of influences that they definitely hold dear to them in terms of classic, alternative and post-punk music from the late 90s to early 2000s.

These guys are really able to nail the aesthetic so well that it gives me bouts of nostalgia just listening to this thing.

One of my favorite aspects about this record is that it comes through semi-theatrical at times. It is kind of heavy too. "Room 36" comes right in with a fierce and sort of gritty bass guitar tone, and heavier guitars, but still has that spacious feel lurking beneath the surface.

The guitar work on this record is outstanding and really helps the flow and drive of the entire thing come through perfectly.

The vocal approach is also outstanding simply because the vocalist knows when to be more subtle and to really belt out. He's got multiple styles and approaches to how he does his thing and each time, the performance feels very balanced with the vibe of the song.

A lot of the tracks have a vivacious kind of energy to them but still have a bit of that gloom.

Another thing I really think about the record is that it certainly keeps to a pop overtone a lot of the time. There are plenty of songs that feel sort of colorful in a sense.

"Under his Eye" is a perfect example of exactly what I mean.

You have some great drumming here that really pushes the song forward and gives that energy it needs, but the main rhythm instrument is the piano, which is really loud in the mix, so you have this sort of flavorful and colorful pop feel with tracks like this one.

Songs like this are when the vocalist becomes a little bit more animated. This is what I mean by theatrical. This track has a very theatrical sensation to it and that aspect was very infectious for me.

"Fate" is one of my favorite tracks on the record because it's very catchy in terms of its melodies, even in the verses.

It's more of a straightforward style song that definitely belongs on rock radio stations and feels like something that you absolutely heard in the early 2000s, blending that alternative and indie rock field with the classic post-punk through and through.

For me, the closing track, "Liminal", was pretty much everything. This track is drenched in reverb effects. Even the drums have that reverb, so everything feels a little bit distanced and this gives it a cinematic feel.

This track sounds like something that would have been on the Lost Boys movie soundtrack somewhere.

The whole aesthetic is really well done and, again, that bass guitar not only has the right kind of tone, but the riff is everything.

This is actually quite an in-depth record, and the bass guitar is an essential and imperative part of it all.

The bass guitar is the glue that holds the entire thing together.

Now, don't get me wrong, the drumming is outstanding, they're not just sitting in the pocket, they're delivering a certain kind of energy and a lot of the rest of the band pushes off of that and helps develop this mood that comes from the songs individually.

This is a record you should listen to all the way through because it's way more fun that way.

You don't want to skip around because there are some surprises, and it does keep you on your toes. As I've mentioned, it's actually quite diverse but always holds true to the vintage post-punk that birthed it all.

So, take a deep dive into this one when you can, and while you do, keep in mind that the guys are about to embark on quite a tour in the UK.
