Submissions come in thick and fast, and if we’re being honest, most of them blur together after a while. So when a live video lands in the inbox and actually makes you sit up, that’s worth mentioning. Bones of Goliath’s “Face
The Flames” did exactly that. Bloody hell, this thing moves.
The Ohio three-piece deliver a weighty, groove-laden performance that feels properly lived-in rather than yoked to death. There’s a doomy undercurrent running through the riffs, but it’s not slow for the sake of it — it lurches forward with purpose. The rhythm section is menacing, the guitar tone is thick without turning to mush, and now I need to learn more about these guys. I will definitely be doing a deep dive on the band.
What makes the live version so compelling is the lack of studio trickery, and just letting us get an authentic look inside the band's live set. “Face The Flames” — a track centred around perseverance and pushing forward — lands with the sort of skull-rattling heft that suits a dark club just as well as a festival stage.
If You have a soft spot for doomy, groove-heavy, no-nonsense rock that feels real rather than engineered, this is well worth your time. Bones of Goliath may have come across our desk as a submission, but after this performance, we’ll be keeping an eye on what they do next.
