Beth Beighey Delivers A Vulnerable But Honest Single

A Beautiful new single from Beth Beighey delivers a very unique breed of honesty that digs deep and showcases a lot of personality, which is really what you end up getting attached to the most throughout this track.

It's very personal. It feels both difficult to sing about, but also possibly cathartic at the same time.

The track boasts a beautifully country and Americana tonality with loads of warm acoustic instrumentation along with electric guitars that sort of float through the song's ether, giving it even more depth and a little bit of cinematic touch.

Again, the beauty of this track is the truthfulness and the ability Beth has to let all these personal inner thoughts come spilling out for all to soak in.

When you listen to the track for the first time, you realize it is about a relationship. It's almost about losing someone in a particular way. Wondering what they're thinking or how you were being received by them at this point.

The way she articulates her lyrics can be very straightforward, which gives the song a lot of character because it feels like you're just sitting there listening to her tell you the story about this relationship.

She wrote it in a first-person perspective, so she's talking to the significant other throughout the song, but when you listen to it, there are lines that you just completely relate to.

There are layers of stringed instruments coming through, giving the song a very lush feel. Slide guitars, live drums, and her vocals just have this beautiful tonality that complements the instruments amazingly.

That tonal warmth is pretty much always there, and the song is incredibly well balanced in terms of giving off that southern underbelly. Nothing about this is over the top, even the lyrics.

Although it's a heavy-handed topic, she keeps things dynamically balanced. You can feel the emotion in it, but it's not pushed. She needs to get this off of her chest, and obviously came from a very authentic place, which is something you can hear in the song from beginning to end.

Throughout all of this, you also have this almost pop sensibility because the chorus is actually very memorable and sort of sticks around in your head for hours after the song has ended.

A lot of these lyrics will stick with you. As you listen through the track, you sort of pick it apart and wonder more and more about who she's talking about and the relationship itself.

You can hear the effect the situation has had on her in those lyrics, and at times, in the performance as well.

The person she's singing about has changed. And as she struggles to comprehend and really understand it all, she wonders about their perspective.

It is really all wonderfully woven and feels like it has this natural flow to it.

Again, it's very full-bodied. It encompasses elements of contemporary pop with the country in Americana, so she's blending those two brilliantly and seamlessly.

I can't help but love a song that touches on such personal attributes, and it comes through with such open-ended vulnerability, while still having a graceful approach and naturally catching songwriting.

The song is called "Strangers".

Upon listening to it, I wanted to have a talk with her, so I could find out more about where it actually came from exactly. I also was curious about what may be coming up next for the artist.

So, while you listen to this single, have a read through of our interview with Beth below.

Now, if you're not too familiar with the artist, then this is a great starting point. This song, in particular, showcases how she puts pieces of herself into her music.

I also suggest listening to some of her other recent releases like "Mirrors", along with 2023's 'Run", as they all show a little bit of a different side to that personality and her artistry as well.

So, take a deep dive into this track but take some time to go through her back catalog because it's amazingly worth it.

Beth Beighey is an artist who delivers music with a lot to chew on, a lot to think about, and a lot to feel.

Remember where you heard it all first.

Where did this song come from and what was it about?

Well, my Dad has Alzheimer’s disease. And it’s something that sat on my heart for a very long time. I knew I wanted to write about it, but also always knew in the back of my head that I would need help with this one. It’s hard enough in and of itself to process those emotions, let alone write a song about it. I was lucky to find myself in a room with Eric Erdman, Tera Lynne & Adam Sickler at Hooked Songwriters Retreat in Florida a couple years ago. It was the first write of the weekend and when asked if anyone had any ideas nothing was popping off the bat. I decided to try the idea, we ended up pouring our hearts out together on this topic and couple hours of tears shed later, we had this beautiful song. It turned out better than I could have ever imagined and I’m so thankful for the whole team that made it possible.

I am hearing a few different styles on this single. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

There was a ton of Influence on the whole record from John Mayer & Kacey Musgraves. My musical influences are so wide ranged that you can probably tell in my music. I love Ice Cube and Merle Haggard. I’m a huge Sia and Adele fan because I love a vocal challenge. I love alt rock and bluegrass too. It’s very possible I’m simply a secret pop artist. I guess we’ll all find out together. The beauty of independent artistry these days is that you can be yourself. You can sound however you’d like that day and change it up whenever you want to.

Are you performing live right now?

I am. I’ve got a couple festivals coming up this summer in Switzerland, and I also book and host Nashville artists monthly at Henry’s Live Music Bar in Baden. We host a series called Nashville Nights and I’m so thankful to stay connected to home in such an exciting way. I had the opportunity to travel here to Switzerland from Nashville for a few years before moving over and it changed my life. To be able to give this experience to other musicians now keeps me grateful and super inspired by the talent that rolls through, and the amazing collabs that take place. Definitely check my tour dates on my website bethbeighey.com for these upcoming shows.

How did this all start for you as an artist?

Haha. I love the actual story looking back. I was always a singer. I sang literally my whole life growing up in Michigan and then went and majored in Vocal Performance at Gulf Coast State College in PCB, FL. Everyone kept telling me I should go to Nashville and sing at a place called Tootsies. Well, turns out Tootsies came right to me and opened a second location in…. Panama City Beach, FL. I had already been bartending my way through college, so I applied and they hired me to open up that location managing and bartending. I worked there for quite some years. I was meeting tons of musicians coming through and hopping up with the band every night. I can really say I learned so much about country music during those years. When I thankfully got fired one day, I told myself I would never work behind the bar again. Only on stage. I’ve been a professional musician ever since. I started from the bottom making myself learn how to play guitar and sing together. I toured a good part of the USA acoustically for 3 years straight before making the move to Nashville. I feel like I hit the gold mine living in Nashville at such an iconic time before all these big corps moved to town. I seriously thought I would never leave there, but life had other plans for me. Now the dream lives on, just in a new country, and “Strangers” has been added to rotation on our national broadcaster SRF 1. I’m very thankful for Switzerland to also be embracing my music!

Did you work with a producer on this release, or was this all you?

What an absolute dream team I have on this release. This album was largely a crowdfunded project, and we were able to get Nashville producer Jess Grommet over here to Switzerland to record my Swiss band and I at the legendary Powerplay Studios in Zurich. Jess and I met at the Hooked Songwriters Retreat I was speaking of earlier and he’s also a co-writer on one of my next releases called “Big Picture”. He is an amazing producer, artist, and crazy talented musician making big waves in Music City. It’s such a pleasure to work together.

What's next for you? Working on more new releases?

I’ve got a year worth of songs to release every couple months, and will be recording a few more this year to complete the album. The title track from the album “Vibration” is a high energy, summertime sing-a-long and I’ll be releasing that next! Look out for the pre-save on that one very soon!

What kind of advice would you give to other up and coming bands or artists trying to get heard?

Make the music that suits YOU. Tell YOUR story. People crave honesty so give it to them. The rest will fall into place if you work hard and keep your vibration high. You can actually manifest your wildest dreams. Consistency is the key.

What would you say people can expect to hear on this track?

Honest lyrics, raw vocals with a soft pop-country feel that tell a story of the loss of a loved one while they’re still here in front of you.

Before we go, what would you want to express to fans of the music?

In these days of algorithms, supporting the music & musicians that you love can be as simple as saving, sharing, downloading, pre-saving etc. These small acts of kindness can create ripple effects. I’ll also have new merch on my website and will be doing some giveaways on my social media very soon, so stay tuned!
