A new release from Stella Novae has a way of haunting you with a cinematic and impactful songwriting and production style that melts you along with the song and pulls you into its atmosphere.
"Hours" has something about it that gives you this nostalgic feeling. It has certain intricacies in the beat and keys that make it feel like something you've been hearing on the radio for years now.
The track boasts this almost post-apocalyptic 80's sci-fi film tonality with these swelling synth pads and textures that float through the song giving off impeccable hooks.
The vocals and entire vibe of this release is very smooth with hints of sullen undertone, and it has this flow to it that feels like staring out the window on a rainy night or floating face up in a lake staring at the stars int the night sky.
It's that impactful cinematic beauty of this piece. They really took their time to build something that felt genuine and like it came from someplace real. And because of that you can feel that emotion in the song.
Really a gorgeous single this one was, and with its release, we wanted to have a chat with Stella Novae about their song and where it actually came from along with what may be next for them.
Here's what happened.
Buzz Slayers: Let's kick things off with "Hours ". This track has a great dream-pop and cinematic feel to it. Where did this single come from?
We decided to create a certain vibe we hadn’t done before. Something minimal but yet intimate. It's a song about forbidden love. Buzz Slayers: So, when did music start affecting you?
When did you know making music was something you wanted to be doing? I think for us both, it started at a young age. We knew when we didn’t consider anything else to be an option. Plus, it's the only thing we're good at haha jk. Buzz Slayers: What inspires you to write a song?
It comes from personal experience and everyday situations. As well as writing from someone else’s point of view. Buzz Slayers: This track has some great styles! Can you give us some of your top musical influences?
That’s a tough one because there's so many lol but we’d say Glass Animals, The Weeknd, Chet Faker, Arctic Monkeys Buzz Slayers: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music?
Spending time with our families and loved ones. Oh, and taking my crazy husky puppy on hikes haha Buzz Slayers: Who's in your headphones right now?
Camidoh “Slow” those afro pop tunes are on top right now. We might have to drop an afro pop single soon :D Buzz Slayers: Are you doing any live performances right now?
We took time off this year to really focus on recording and networking. But starting December we're gonna start playing live shows again. Buzz Slayers: This single feels like a big undertaking, is there any advice you'd give to other up and coming artists out there?
Try to find your own unique sound to break through the noise. And most importantly consistency! Consistency and hard work will always beat out talent. Buzz Slayers: What can your fans expect from you in the near future?
Alot more live shows and a lot more songs! And also, be on the lookout because some of our music will be on some TV Shows/Film soon. Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?
Thank you for the support and to continuing to inspire us to make great music.
