An Interview with Mama Radical

ree

A beautifully vivid new track from Mama Radical delivers such a colorful but almost spacious soundscape in the form of reggae and pop, and this combination comes through with a graceful approach, along with a blending of tones that just feels wonderful when you listen to it.

"Hypnotic Fire" is a tract that is basically about escaping everyday life. She sings about how she gets away by staring into this hypnotic fire and forgetting about her worries. It's like a spiritual lifting that removes you from the world you live in and all of its stresses, struggles, and worries, and puts you in a more spiritually elevated place so that you can be at peace.

I love this sentiment, and again, this is just how I took the song. Others that listen to the song may take it differently, but for me, the sentiment is very cut and dry. It is a beautiful song about going somewhere and creating this hypnotic fire to get away from it all.

The cool thing about the concept is that it can be different for everybody. For some people they have noticed fire is playing video games, writing music, maybe, painting, just being alone and focusing on something that pulls you away from the things that normally surround you.

Something to escape into is an essential aspect these days, especially for certain aspects of mental health and stress.

I definitely love how she gets into the spirituality and entrancing effects of staring into that hypnotic fire and how it lifts her up in a certain sense.

We all need something to take the pain away, and for Mama Radical, this is it.

As the song unfolds, she delves into other aspects of what she's doing to escape herself, but all in all, this is a song that expresses a unique approach to the emotions involved with escapism.

This is definitely a track that has a deep groove, amazing guitars that bring a color and flavor to everything, and there are organs that fill the background of the track, giving it that bit of thickness, adding more texture to the already sort of spacious atmosphere that the track delivers.

One of the things that I really adored about this single was the sheer fact that it feels almost like a live performance. It feels like everyone involved was in a room feeding off of each other's energies the entire time, letting the song feel almost alive and breathing in a way.

This was a beautiful thing because it puts you in the moment as well. This is a very important aspect of the track, also. You want to be put in that same moment where she is.

You want to escape into the song, and it provides the great escape indeed.

This track will absolutely pull you away from whatever you're doing and whatever you are and put you in a different headspace for a little chunk of time.

After listening to the single, I took a bit of a deep dive into Mama Radical's back catalog on Spotify and absolutely loved some of these previous singles that she has dropped.

There are a few from last year and a few from the year before that, before jumping back to 2017, but I can tell you now, each of these releases showcases a little bit of a different side to her personality.

This is an artist who gives little pieces of herself in her music. She sings about things that have a little bit of a deeper meaning to her as she expresses how she's feeling and lets those emotions spill out for everyone to soak in.

It's nothing too intense, but it all has this connective element because we are all human, and these songs are very humanizing, especially "Hypnotic Fire".

With that reggae rhythm, amazing guitar work, character-riddled approach, descriptive lyrics, and spiritually lifting and connective approach, this song showcases a wonderful aesthetic that works for just about anybody.

Take a deep dive into this track as soon as you can and get entrance with that "Hypnotic Fire".

While you do , take a loo at our interview with the artist below!

Remember where you heard it first.

Buzz Slayers: Hey and thanks for taking some time with us! Let's talk a bit about "Hypnotic Fire"! The song had that reggae edge and rhythm and it all had a gorgeous vibrancy!! Where did this single come from?

THIS IS AN OLD SONG I MADE AT MY GRAND PARENTS SUMMERHOUSE.

THAT WAS THE MOST SPECIAL PLACE FOR ME. IT STILL IS BUT

UNFORTUNATELY IT WAS SOLD AWAY A FEW YEARS BACK. I TOOK WHAT I

REMEMBERED OF THE SONG AND MADE IT TO THIS CURRENT FORM THIS

YEAR.

FIRE IS A VERY POWERFULL ELEMENT. IT HAS THE POTENTIAL OF BOTH

PURIFICATION, BIRTH AND DESTRUCTION. THE MOST COMMON AND

OLDEST TRADITION TO SIT BY THE FIRE AND TELL STORIES. THIS HAS

SHAPED HUMANITY AND IT IS STILL VERY IMPORTANT RITUAL WITCH WE

ALL HAVE IN COMMON.

THOSE THINGS: LAKE,SAUNA AND FIRE, ARE THE BEST THINGS TO RELAX

AND GET RID OF THE STRESS AND NOICE OF URBAN LIFE.

Buzz Slayers: I am hearing some great approaches here! Can you give us some of your biggest musical influences?

I HAVE ALWAYS LISTENED TO MANY DIFFERENT KIND OF MUSIC. THE

BEATLES WAS A BIG THING FOR ME AS A KID AND DAVID BOWIE IS

PROPABLY MY BIGGEST ADMIRATION. AFRICAN MUSIC ALWAYS MAKES ME

VERY INSPIRATED. REGGAE HIT ME HARD A LONG TIME AGO WHEN MY

FRIEND WAS STAYING OVER AND CONSTANTLY PLAYIED IT OVER A PERIOD

OF FEW MONTHS. FROM THERE ON I WAS HOOKED.

Buzz Slayers: How did this all start for you as an artist?

I HAVE BEEN PERFORMING ALL MY LIFE.

I STARTED AS A DANCER AND CHOREOGRAPHER BUT I FOUND THE

DANCE CIRQUIT IN FINLAND VERY SMALL AND COMPETITIVE FOR ME AS I

HAD STUDIED IN AMSTERDAM (THE NETHERLANDS).

I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED MUSIC AND SINGING AND SO I TOOK A CHANCE TO

AUDITION TO BE A LEAD SINGER IN A BAND AND SOON AFTER BEING A

SINGER, I STARTED TO MAKE LYRICS AND COMPOSITIONS.

OUTSIDE OF THAT FIRST BAND, I WANTED TO DO DIFFERENT TYPE OF

MUSIC.

I WAS GIVEN THE NAME: MAMA RADICAL. WITH THEOSE MUSICIANS AT THE

TIME, WE STARTED OF KIND OF AS A COVER BAND BUT PRETTY SOON

THERE WERE MORE AND MORE MY SONGS TO PLAY.

Buzz Slayers: Are you doing or planning any tours or live shows?

I WOULD LIKE TO PERFORM MUCH MORE BUT I DONT HAVE A SOLID BAND

TO PERFORM WITH AT THE MOMENT. I WILL TRY TO MAKE IT HAPPEN

SOON.

SOLO PERFORMING IS A LITTLE BIT LONELY AND I'D PREFER TO DO IT

WITH PEOPLE.

MUSICIANS, ARTISTS AND CULTURAL WORKERS ARE IN A VERY TOUGH

PLACE IN FINLAND AT THE MOMENT. MAJOR CUTS FROM CULTURE,

EDUCATION AND HEALTHCARE IS A RESULT OF A VERY CRUEL AND

SHORTSIGHTED, SELFISH POLITICS.

THEY WANT US TO BE DIVIDED, WANTING WAR INSTEAD OF CREATING

PEACE.

Buzz Slayers: Now that this is released, what's next for you? Will there be more singles coming?

NEXT SINGLE IS COMING OUT ON the 25th of SEPTEMBER AND IT IS ALSO IN

A STYLE OF REGGAE BUT IN FINNISH LANGUAGE. IT’S TAKING A STAND

ABOUT THESE ISSUESS I MENTIONED BEFORE BUT WITH HUMOUR AND

PLAYFULL ENERGY.

NEXT SINGLE AFTER THAT IS COMING PROBABLY ON OCTOBER. THAT’S

GOING TO BE TOTALLY DIFFERENT GENRE. I SHOULD FIGURE OUT INTO

WTCH CATEGORY TO PUT IT…

IT”S A LOVE SONG ABOUT EXTRAORDINARY LOVE.

Buzz Slayers: Who is in your headphones right now?

LATELY IT'S BEEN MAMA RADICAL SINCE I’VE BEEN LISTENING SOME

RECORDINGS AND MIXES.

A WHILE AGO I DICOVERED A BAND CALLED THE LOVING PAUPERS. I LOVE

THEM.

THIS SUMMERS HIT FOR ME HAS BEEN: FORESTSUN ”CALLING IN” REGGAE

SONG!

Buzz Slayers: What kind of advice would you have for other artists getting their music out there?

THERE ARE AS MANY OPIONIOS THAN THERE ARE PEOPLE, SO THINK

ABOUT WHO’S FEEDBACK YOU CAN TAKE SOMETHING OUT OF AND TRUST

YOURSELF.

ACCEPT THAT THINGS MAY NOT BE AS PERFECT AS YOU’D LIKE BUT IT IS

FOREVER GOING PROCESS. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO ENJOY, EVEN

THOUGH IT’S NOT ALWAYS FUN AND EASY, BUT HARDWORK.

LEARN TO LET GO AND WORK ON PERSISTANTLY.

IT’S ALL ABOUT LEARNING HOW YOU DO IT. WE ARE ALL UNIQUE.

DON'T COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS BUT ONLY TO YOUR OWN

PROGRESS AND JOURNEY.

Buzz Slayers: What can you say people might expect from this release?

DON’T WAIT FOR THE CHORUS…THERE AIN’T ONE.

RELAX AND SEE WHERE IT TAKES YOU.

Buzz Slayers: Thanks so much for this!!
