An Interview with Landon Gamble

An upcoming single release from Landon Gamble brings out a very beautiful and unique breed of honesty that makes you think. The lyrics can get very detailed, although still emotionally driven, and if you really listen, it quickly becomes incredibly relatable.

"Faces" is a song that lets Landon spill out a lot of his inner thoughts. I feel like this must have been cathartic for the artist to write and release because whoever is listening to it, can understand exactly where he's coming from especially if they've been in any sort of relationship where the significant other isn't exactly as they seemed at first.

Now, having said that, people can take this song in different ways depending on who they are and how they're living their life however, this is obviously a song about a little bit of confusion in terms of someone that's close to you and how you perceived them when the relationship first started, and how those change over time.

I find this interesting simply because it's something a lot of us have gone through before. Plenty of us have had friends or significant others in any form who ended up either changing or doing something that changed our view of them, showing a different side that we didn't see before.

Landon puts this together with such brilliance and light so that you can grasp the entire situation from his perspective along with the emotion that comes with that. It's a bit frustrating and you can hear that in the song and the performance.

The track is a little contemporary but has a lot of character embedded in it so you can feel that this is coming from someplace authentic right from the get-go and Landon gives a lot during that performance so that you can hear the truth coming through.

You can hear some folk and singer-songwriter influences as well as it is very guitar-based, and the guitars are clean. It has this forward-moving flow to it that feels completely natural. You end up singing along with the melodies of the track even during the verses themselves.

For me, this was a beautiful track.  It showcased Landon's ability to be open with his music; to let it all out and in a way where there are no walls built around him.

That is one of the most important aspects of this track. It also packs in a lot of that personality and character. I miss songs with that level of honesty and Landon Gamble has delivered in terms of pushing that truthfulness to the forefront and getting things off of his chest in the best way he knows how.

The single is set to release on the 24th of this month Tonight, Landon will be performing at the legendary Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto Ontario and is definitely excited about it.

As he ramps up for his release, this show will be an amazing way to kick things off.

We wanted to talk with Landon about not only the single but a little bit of history, of course, about tonight's show at the Horseshoe Tavern, and more.

Here's what happened.

Buzz Slayers: Hey Landon! Thanks for taking some time with us!

I'd love to start off with the single "Faces" that is set to release! I really liked this track and how it played out! It had a singer songwriter undertone but opened up into a warm pop rock feel as well! Beautiful song! Where did this come from?

Thank you so much for the kind words about my song. With “Faces” I took a lot of inspiration from one of my favourite bands Royel Otis. I love how their music incorporates pop; indie and alternative genres and I think a lot of my songs take after them in that way. I also wanted to bring a sense of mystery and darkness to the listener with this song and I’ve been really enjoying writing songs like that lately. “Faces” has definitely unlocked a lot of new tools for my artistry and I can’t wait to see how It continues to shape my sound!

Buzz Slayers: The song certainly took on an array of pop toned styles. Can you give us some of your top influences musically?

Recently I’ve been listening to a lot of Mk.gee, Royel Otis and Pinegrove. Following these artists has been a great learning experience for me and they have become some of my biggest influences musically. I would say most of my songs can sound a lot different than those artists but that is my favourite thing about the way I create. When I hear someone I like, I never think “oh wow that’s exactly what I want to sound like”. For me, I feel more of an appreciation of what they can do and the journey that they’re on and if I can learn or take a couple lessons from them, then I know I’ve found a great musician to look up to.

Buzz Slayers: Did you record this track at a big recording studio, or at a home set up you have?

My process is almost always the same. I have a home studio where I write and produce all of my demos to completion. From there I will bring the demos to my producer, Tal Vaisman, and we will decide what needs to be changed for the master. Usually, the rest of the recording could take place in a number of different places! In this case however, me and my brother, Dawson Gamble, produced this song on our own. We started the recording at Noble Street Studios in Toronto and then finished what we needed to at our shared studio space in Scarborough!

Buzz Slayers: What are you playing on this track in terms of instruments?

The instruments on this song consist of electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, synthesizers, drums and other percussion items like shakers and a tambourine. I am playing the acoustic guitar and some of the electric guitar parts. I’m also playing the synths!

Buzz Slayers: We hear you have a big show coming on in support of the single! Can you tell us about that one?

Yes! I am playing at Horseshoe Tavern on January 16th. I’m so excited for this show because it will be my first time playing “Faces” live and I can’t wait to see how it works in my set and how the crowd responds to it. This show being a week before the single dropping is also going to be such a cool experience, I’ve never played an unreleased song at a show before, and having some people hear it live before it comes out will be such an amazing feeling!

Buzz Slayers: Do you find that you love performing live as much as recording the music?

I find that performing live is the most amazing thing you can do as an artist. There are so many things that go into being a musician these days, from recording, to making music videos to constantly posting on social media. Most of these can lose their magic quite quickly but performing live is something that I could never see getting old. It’s a great privilege to take a song from concept to realization and then perform it in this intimate moment with you and maybe people who came to hear it. I know that as I start to play bigger shows that feeling will only become more intense and filled with joy.

Buzz Slayers: "Faces" is releasing on the 24th of January, correct? What comes after that for you as an artist?

Yes! That single is set to release on the 24th of January. After “Faces” is released, I will be dropping a cinematic live performance video of the song on all of my social platforms as well!

Once all of that is rolled out, I will be continuing to release music throughout the year leading up to a five song EP project. I am so excited for all of these new releases, I believe this is some of the best music I’ve made in my career so far. 2025 is going to be an amazing year for me as an artist!

Buzz Slayers: Who is in your headphones right now?

As I mentioned before, Royel Otis, Mk.gee and Pinegrove are definitely in my headphones the most right now. Some other artists I’ve been loving are The Backseat Lovers, Clairo and Role Model.

Buzz Slayers: What is your absolute favorite aspect of doing all of this?

My favorite aspect of pursuing music is the reward of people listening to what I create. That feeling will always be unmatched and it’s something that will bring me joy every time. There’s something so vulnerable about writing and creating songs and when they are released to the world, even one person understanding or loving them can go such a long way. Especially since it’s what I love to do. I couldn’t think of anything more fulfilling!

Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?

All I would like to say is thank you. To anyone who has listened to my songs or is a fan of my music, I am forever grateful for that support and it’s something I hold very close to my heart. At this point in my career being a smaller artist, I’ve learned to start appreciating the small wins and understand that this is a long journey, enjoying the ride is vital. I can’t wait for more people to hear what I’ve been working on!
