An Interview With Kelsey Olivia

A new EP release from Kelsey Olivia brings out a bright and edgy but completely honest songwriting approach that has a way of tapping into your own memories with straightforward lyrics that really let this release shine with character.

The Just for Show EP is riddled with heart and goes through a wondrous array of undertones in songwriting that let her show different sides of how she does her thing.

The bulk of the release is an excitable pop-rock feel that's done with such personality that you quickly become addicted to it.

If there's one thing that I think would be my favorite aspect of this record, it would be the sheer fact that this whole thing showcases such a youth in songwriting that has fewer boundaries than its predecessors.

Have such a freeing level of creating musical content here that no matter how the song ends up, whether it's a rock style or it's more indie pop for example, you still get that same personality throughout it, and it's still all done with that same level of heart which is the most important aspect of the whole thing.

This EP serves almost like chapters in her life which is really cool because it's almost like a concept record in a way.

You get to escape into her situations in her life for a little bit and I think that a good EP or a good album should be able to do that.

When it's over you get a much better understanding of who she is as a person, and you almost feel like she's a friend.

These songs have lots of amazing hooks and impactful choruses that sit around in your head and stick with you for hours and even days sometimes so even though the record has so much honesty and so much personality, it still has that radio friendliness to it.

This kind of combination is something that's really not easy to find these days so it's absolutely refreshing to hear it now.

There's definitely a lot of attention to detail happening throughout the course of the release but it never loses that soul or the emotional platform from which the songs were born.

A lot of these have even a sort of cinematic backbone to them and you can definitely see them in episodes of shows or films.

She's got a beautiful voice and a natural knack for harmonies and that's part of what drives the record as well.

This was an incredibly well-woven and thoughtful release that a lot got put into and when you listen to it you can feel all of that.

It has as much fun and color as it does its personal attributes so it's very satiating by the time it's done.

With the release of such a great and well-thought-out EP, we wanted to have a sit-down with Kelsey Olivia to find out what drove her to create this record and what might be coming up next for the artist.

Here's what happened.

Buzz Slayers: Okay, let's start with the Just for Show EP! This record had an honest feel with a high energy pop-rock style that crossed into indie-pop! How did this EP come about? Yes! So, this EP was something I knew I wanted to do after releasing 6 singles! I knew the genre and feel of the EP was going to be a little different than normal with songs like “just for show” and “corpse bride” but I was excited! Buzz Slayers: How did this all start for you as an artist? When did you fall in love with music? I’ve been singing ever since I was little, and I always knew I wanted to do music professionally as I got older. It was just something I knew I should be doing Buzz Slayers: What kind of things really inspire songs for you? A lot of things!! Everything from real life situations, to movies, to other people's experiences, I will pull from almost anything! Buzz Slayers: This EP has some great styles on it! Can you give us some of your biggest influences musically? Yeah! Some are Olivia Rodrigo, Conan Gray, Nessa Barrett, Taylor Swift, Machine Gun Kelly, Melanie Martinez, and a lot more!! Buzz Slayers: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music?

That’s a great question! I’m pretty much always working on music either through promotion, interviews, meetings, and other things! I’m always hanging out with friends but even then I tend to bring my computer/notebooks with me to do some type of work lol! Buzz Slayers: Who's in your headphones right now? Taylor Swift 100% Buzz Slayers: Are you doing any live performances right now? Not at the moment! But we are definitely working on some things :) Buzz Slayers: Did you record yourself or hit a big studio for this? I record in a studio in Cleveland! Buzz Slayers: What can your fans expect from you in the near future? More content, more music, and possibly a new era!! Regardless, there’s more to come!

Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?

Thank you so much for all your support!! Doing this is a dream for me and being able to have a supportive fan base is one of the best things :)
