A Vast and Heavy Rock Release from Cursor

An album release from Cursor delivers a very vast alternative rock tonality that comes with a sort of orchestrated and almost cinematic backbone, and this is part of what gives it its massively expansive feel which is something that you end up getting very attached to and quickly becomes the source for the atmosphere of the entire out.

The Apparitions album is brimming with not only a high level of character and personality but, it's got some storytelling, you can paint pictures in your head and the entire thing is constructed with a brilliant set of arrangements but also this slight haunt and edginess that exists throughout the whole thing and ends up becoming part of the theme of the record.

The way this soundscape comes through reminds me of a cross between sort of a late 90s or early 2000s underground alternative rock, and this anthemic almost metal approach as well, but it's riddled with all this progressive songwriting and spacious vibes as well, so this also helps the whole haunt aspect of it.

Some guitars crunch and hit hard, and some guitars are lighter and, sort of, float around through the songs ether but either way you're getting something that feels like a concept record where the songs do indeed interconnect with each other in different ways and this is one of the few reasons that you should be listening to the entire album as opposed to just a few tracks.

The tones throughout the record are absolutely key because they help the songs come through with a certain kind of aesthetic, and there are actually no two songs that are super similar really.

Some tracks do hit a heavier alternative rock vibe, their tracks that give you that spacious and vaster progressive vibe, some tracks give you a sort of garage rock vibe with pop coatings and danceable rhythms, but it all has that edginess and its underbelly, and I think that's part of why this record thrives so well.

What I mean by the tones are the actual textures of the guitars, and especially the bass. I cannot explain to you how imperative the bass guitar is throughout this record because it doesn't just give backbone. The base on this record has a mind all its own and it's an absolutely imperative element to the construct of the sound that you're hearing on this record.

The way it's performed, the tone of it, the riffs, all of it is really important because it also helps the other instruments and vocals.

Every element of the record pushes the next. The drums push the guitars, the bass pushes the drums, the guitars push the vocals, and it all comes together so that everything compliments each other and helps push all the songs to exactly where they end up.

The vocal performance on this record is intense when it needs to be and more subtle and soft when it needs to be as well. Just like everything else about this record it all feels sort of alive and breathing.

The intensity levels from the drums and the guitars, the bass and the vocals all have the feeling of being very synced with each other.

There are other things about the record that are a little bit outside the box and there are some surprises around the corners, but I do have to say as I mentioned earlier, the whole concept album part of it is just the first reason to listen to the full record. The second reason is because if you do just listen to one or two tracks it may give you a little bit of a gist of what you may expect however, it will not give you anywhere near the full spectrum of what the album has to offer.

You don't want to just throw that away.

This record is a vast rock escape from reality. It pulls you away from your surroundings and puts you into a different place for a chunk of time and that to me, is like a gift.

But I digress. Don't just take my word for it, go and listen to the record and we'll include something below so you can listen to a track right here but go and listen to this full record and I do suggest you do it either nice and loud or with headphones on so you can soak in all the atmospheric stuff that's going on in the ether of the songs.

Those elements are awesome too and they help build the songs up and create the sort of engulfing feel of the record itself.
